NEW IPHONE!!!

My wife just bought an Iphone 3GS in january but I've been holding off til the new one (didn't want to buy one only to have it be outdated in 6 months)

But I don't know if I could break up with my blackberry
 
Gonna say that there is a better likelihood than not that his is a hoax.

It looks like military surplus compared to the current iPhone, much more spartan and industrial. I'm not saying it ugly at all just that its not in the Apple style. Its more Zune than ipod. The case is eerily similar to the 2nd generation Zune.

Anyway still waiting for someone to actually turn it on and show us the phone, and less of the hold it in front of a camera and wave it like lightsaber BS.
 
I actually think the opposite in that the new features announced won't make me trade my current 3GS in anytime soon.

Nothing special it seems to me about this new version.
 
i'vw had the original 3g for awhile now and can't wait for the upgrade. i was kinda hoping that it would have the new chip from the ipad running it but the article didn't say anything about that.
 
How much does it cost to upgrade? I've had the 3G for a year and a half. Do i have to buy the new one for full price?
 
i'm sure the new model, whatever it is, will cost the same as the old one originally did. so around 300 if you renew a contract, or 500 if you don't
 
Confirmed by Apple that it's no hoax. It may not be how the final product will look, but it's at least a prototype.
 
I would expect significantly improved battery life (on the order of 1.5-2X) based on the larger battery and dramatically smaller electronics footprint. Also, longer battery life is a clear area of Apple engineering focus based on the recently announced MacBook Pros and iPad. All the new iPhone features are nice, but improved battery life would help them to differentiate themselves even more from their emerging competition.
 
Screen resolution and longer battery life are two key components. These in some ways are much the same as in most tech devicies now. How long will it last between charges, even with backlight, colour, heavy web aps etc... I know people who will never make a switch to iphone because of the non removable battery. So this new larger battery will be very welcome. We all know you can never have too much resolution either.
The problem is it runs and ATT and is Apple. Of course I am a noted anti-Applite here. Also, when someone mentioned it looking like the Zune more than the ipod? Well, I happen to think that the Zune looks better. I had never thought of this leaked iphone looking like the Zune ,but it kinda does.

But really, think of all the companies you want to screw with... I would rather hack into the FBI than mess with Apple.

Look at what they have done in the past decade, the lawsuits, the firings, the threats. Foxconn produces the iPhones, remember the 25 year old Chinese guy that lost a prototype last year????

The guy committed suicide a few days later. Everyone has already forgotten that one.

I have no idea how Apple maintains their peace, love, dope image. Their new slogan should be "if you mess with us we will **** you up."
 
I read somewhere that Steve Jobs personally kept track of who had prototypes. Jobs should man up and take full responsibility. It is poor technique to allow your employees to go drinking while on the job. Can you imagine flight control directors at NASA sipping martini's a few moments before shuttle launch?

so it's pretty much just like the modle gizmodo had. and with the new a4 processor from the ipad, this thing will be a technical beast while also being more energy efficient. i for one am excited.

Why will you disdain your phone when you get OS4 on it? OS4 should make the 3Gs a better phone, the main differences between the two is the camera and the screen. If the former was important to you, you would have purchased a different phone, and as to the latter... they can add as many pixels as they want and it won't change the fact it is a 2x4 screen which means there are limiting returns to adding pixels.

You have a good phone, on June 21st it will get better... be happy about that.
 
While the new os will be great for my 3GS, apparently the technology in the new display looks fantastic to see - not only the ppi but the melding of the LCD to the glass. We'll see.

And having an iPhone with such a camera will be excellent. At least my dedicated camera has a waterproof case so it won't become completely superfluous.

And btw Mia, sold on the Pad yet?
 
Back to the original point... I am extremely excited about running iOS4 on the 3Gs. I think it is going to greatly improve the user experience on the phone which already has the single best user experience in the smart phone market.

I think the screen sounds great, and the camera is certainly cool... but the addition of the A4 processor, and what it allowed them to do with the battery really, to me, is the best change in the rev.
