Regardless if he is an offensive genius, his only HC job at an elite program was a complete failure. He did a pretty good job at Washington, but that ain't the instant pot we have here in Austin.

He didn't suck, that's it. He improved them from where they were at before, but all he did was make them mediocre instead of awful.

5-7
7-6
7-6
7-6
8-4

Never finished in the top 2 of the North division. Won 1 bowl game.

When you start at 0-12, 8-4 after 5 years is a substantial improvement.

hopefully he’ll at least be smart enough to let bijan play a full game. that alone might’ve gotten us a couple more wins this year.

I dunno how I feel about this. I'm much less pessimistic about Herman than most on this board, and I still remember all the critiques about Mack in his first four years. I think Herman could have grown into the job and produced a champion. But it seems like the last two years have made the atmosphere around the program almost unsustainable. Once you float the UM possibility like that, I think it's hard to roll that back.

Ultimately I suspect Sarkisian is as good an option as we have at this point. Which is another reason why I was OK with waiting Tom out. I suspect he's capable, and I think he has enough name and cred that he'll create some sizzle with recruits, and should help to hold onto some guys who might otherwise leave.

Overall, at this point I'm satisfied if we just get to a point where we don't have to talk about the coaching situation for another couple of years.

Sark is an elite offensive mind. Bama is winning games by an average of 30 points. He’s a good recruiter. He has seen programs run by Pete Carroll & Nick Saban. He’s been a head coach so he has experience. He’s been an NFL guy. All of that and he’s 46. If this guy can hire a good OLine coach and a good WR coach who can teach players to beat press coverage, we will score plenty of points. And if it’s true he is bringing Bryce Young with him, even better. Once Urban Meyer was floated out there, anyone outside of him would be a let down. But Sark is a good hire. He would get that new coach bump for 2022 recruiting which is a good class. If Bama wins the NC, he can use that when recruiting. He will also have former and current players more engaged with Herman gone. That helps with recruiting. I think even Herman wins 8 games next year. Sark is set up with a good roster. He just needs to hire a staff that’s better at developing players than Herman.

Stomping a mudhole in Colorado may have been a bad thing for Herman. I think it showed what the team has the capability to do when used properly.

Are we sure about that?

Who will be his DC? Ash?
Probably a good guess. Unless Sark wants an OC, Yurich would seem seems to be the odd man out. However, on the level that Texas wants to be on, an HC has too much on his plate to be involved with play calling. Sark and Yurich would be an offensive machine.

He needs to be the top recruiter in Texas.

As a bonus, I bet he’ll be able to bring in a couple of 4 star + players from California each year with his contacts out there.

Possible, but I think the noose was around his neck, properly, after the ISU game.

Remember, just about everyone one here said B12 title this year was the only acceptable outcome. Herman didn't even take Texas to the game (though they were "in the conversation in December", one of the most pitiful statements I've heard by a head coach).
