New candidate for worst movie ever

It's been around for years, but I never saw Dune until last week. It's mind-boggling that a group of directors, producers, writers, etc, all normal human beings with functional brains, capable of logic, reasoning, rational thought, etc, actually came together to make this and thought that it would be a good idea. The novel might have been good (haven't read it). The game Emperor: Battle for Dune is fairly good. But this movie is one of the most atrocious attempts at entertainment I've ever seen. I didn't finish the whole thing, my friend and I just said "screw this crap" and went off to play some computer games.

I award it no stars. May God have mercy on their souls.

I loved Vanilla Sky and Fight Club, but I have to admit that they aren't for everyone.

As far as worst, Catwoman and Battlefield Earth are two that come to mind.

As a fan of the book, I HATED Dune when it was first released in theatres. I re-watched it a couple of years back and it wasn't quite as bad as I remembered..

The book didn't translate well, at least not how they tried to do it. Most of the book was internal monologue, and they tried to keep the movie true to that. And that's why you have eight thousand voice-overs, and that's why the movie sucked.

I also can't stand Lynch movies. Well, I can stand them, I just think they are overrated.

Broken Arrow is the worst movie ever by far. Travolta deserved an Oscar for Battlefield Earth compared to his performance in Broken Arrow. He is unquestionably the worst actor ever, as his movies make up about 50% of the 10 worst movies ever.

I finally watched Dune all the way through on On Demand (for free) the other day (never could stand to sit through the whole thing before and I was epically bored), what a great bad movie, every bit as good as Waterworld, glorious melodramatic overacting, hideous costumes, absurd action scenes, inane dialogue, I thought Partic Stewart did an excellently horrible job as Gurney Halleck, troubador warrior!

Dune kicks ***! Are you crazy?

Lady in the Water was not bad either.

The Broken Arrow guy had it right.

The Sci-Fi chanel did a remake mini-series of Dune about 6 years ago.

The mini-series is about 9,000x better than the movie, but its a book that just doesnt translate well into the movie world, too complicated.

man... **** hornfans. You ******** are going to make me watch Battlefield Earth just so I don't feel left out on these "worst movie...." threads.

crayon,

You have to celebrate Travolta's entire collection. How a man can make a successful career out of utter garbage amazes me. If you remove Pulp Fiction, I could throw a dart at his filmography and make a solid argument that whatever the dart hits is the worst movie ever.

His ability to make money this way is awe-inspiring. I can't think of another actor that even comes close.

U.S. Marshalls, which was "The Fugitive" with Wesley Snipes instead of Harrison Ford, and without a coherent plot, is up there as the worst movies I've ever seen.

The Talented Mr. Ripley is up there.
Van Helsing is so bad, it's good.

I'm glad others feel the same way about Dune. I never could see what was so great about it.
But Brisket-totally agree about the English Patient, and I was hoping someone would come in an euthanize me before it mercifully ended. I stayed because I thought my wife was enjoying it, but afterwards she said she wanted to leave early. A fine woman, although she isn't into The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly or Blazing Saddles like I am.
