This from Perlman made me laugh but feel sorry for all Good Huskers -HNK. The others, not so much
"It might have been better for my faculty and my institution if I had quietly slipped out the back door," he said in retrospect. "But I think that would have diminished the accomplishments we've made and the quality of our institution"
'cause nothing says accomplishment and quality like getting kicked out.
yeah, hnk is a good guy. there are plenty of good, sensible huskers, and we have to guard against thinking all of them are as goofy as the worst of them.
speaking of worst, though, i followed a link to a really goofy neb thread you gotta take a look at. guy there actually proclaims that texas should get the death penalty since there is no apparent indication that we are doing anything wrong. NOT MAKING THIS UP! see for yourself!
i mean, how more aggie-like can the bozo-wing huskers become? there's actually a sooner there telling the guy how full-of-it he is. i mean, is this world gone upside down or what?? [hey, also take note that posters there are ranked by military rank insignia. more fake army at work . . . err, play?]
later in the thread, of course, the issue of adding one second to a completed game came up. how nutty can that bunch be? there's been plenty of offer for them to look at game tape and stop the action when the ball hits the ground and look at the clock, but to no avail whatever, apparently. they seem to be stuck on stupid. or maybe disingenuous.
incidentally, if you ever get caught in a convo with one of those new-generation ag-types from neb country, and the issue of the one-second comes up, use this vid (or i think it might be available on youtube) to answer. this is the final drive of that game, so you have to go a couple of minutes into it to get to the crux moment. in fact, the ball hits the ground out of bounds (not a railing as some media types who don't want to look at the tape, i guess, have stated) at almost exactly 2:04.
the ball is moving fast, and it hits right behind a cameraman who is leaning forward to avoid being hit. so you can't be exactly sure when it hits except for an event person immediately behind the cameraman with his back to the wall the media people claimed the ball hit. he is in black pants and a white shirt, and he follows the ball down, watches it hit, and then follows it a moment or two as it bounces on down the sideline. you can follow his head movements and know when the ball has hit and is moving on. you cannot stop that vid with zero seconds showing without that man already looking down the sideline.
all this said, though, keep hnk in mind. the bozos may actually be few in number and may have never actually had anything to do with the school. think positive thoughts and wave bye-bye.
glenn I appreciate the sentiments however I realize there are people here who don't give two flying shits about me, or about what you just said about not all of us being that wacky.
I've come to grips with that. It comes with the territory.
hnk, no doubt there's some truth to that, but to tell you the truth that probably more true for me than it is for you. you've seen numerous people here speak to your good nature. you're a valued member of this community and if some treat you a way that isn't warranted, well, that says more about them than it does about you.
because of some really boorish behavior -- and sometimes really stupid behavior -- by some people claiming to be huskers and some pretty unsavory behavior by some husker officials (including those who were apparently trying to browbeat the aau members into dropping their complaints) right now is a particularly bad time to be a cornhusker around here. like you said, you have to realize that's the way it is for the time being. the good, reasonable, salt of the earth nebraska fans are welcome here but need to keep a thick hide, at least till stuff blows over.
if i were you, though, i would be more concerned elsewhere. like the big ten. as fractious as your athletic people have been in the big 12, they better adopt a different mindset immediately. they don't want to get off on a wrong foot up there.
i've thought about my glee in calling out the ludicrous behavior we are seeing from the corn-types these days and realize that while much of it is in response to the ongoing feud between the nebraska program and mine, there is also a personal component.
i grew up liking and respecting the cornhuskers, and, though my impression of that program took a very large hit late in dr tom's reign -- what with the lawrence phillips saga and some others -- i saw that as anomaly, not characteristic nebraska style.
i think a lot of what fuels my fervor here is my disgust of what has happened up there and my hope that tom and his whole merry band get run out of town. the actions of the chancellor in the aau situation make me suspicious the rot runs deeper than i thought. the response of the aau membership -- other than the big 12 members and most of the big ten members -- pretty clearly shows a similar disgust. nebraska needs to get its house in order. and, of course, i always need to get my house in order, so i probably should keep quiet.
