NBC and Michael Phelps

For me, NBC is ruining his story. I understand the network wanting to milk his story for as much (ratings/advertisements/etc) as possible, but come on.

That last interview was atrocious. Lets give the other three relay members 5 seconds of airtime and then talk to Michael about his goggles filling up with water for two minutes.

Since his two races were so close together, they couldn't interview him after his individual one. In other words, they had to interview Phelps about both races after the relay.

still not as bad as last night after that girl (sacrimone) fell on the beam and the floor exercise. they held the camera tight on her face for a solid 3 or 4 minutes, and when she'd move or turn, they'd switch cameras. you could practically hear the producers screaming 'come on, cry for me baby!'

Speaking of CRYING... I walked into my room last night and I actually had the Olympics on. Some Hungarian guy was getting ready to compete in the "Clean & Jerk" (where you have to get the bar over your head).

Well he gets it up there and it starts to go back too far... and then his right elbow completely comes out of its socket and he starts wailing as the bar crashes down on his right shoulder and he falls to the ground.

Chinamen & Chinawomen ran out in front of the guy with large placards to block the view of the audience from seeing the guy rything (¿sp?) in pain on the ground as they brought out a stretcher. It was downright nasty. But the guy weighed over 72 pounds, so I actually gave a damn.

Are the Olympics sensored by China at all? It seems that there is less coverage now than for past olympics and I wonder if they just cant stream as much stuff as normal because of the Chinese government.

I caught the gymnastic interviews around 12 last night. NBC tried so hard to get the one girl to cry. She was asked 10 different ways about how she felt letting her team down. Very bad NBC.

if she starts to bawl after 1 question, ok. But let it go, if she won't cry fr you.

BA93:

Couldn't agree more. I was happy for her, she kept getting asked those stupid questions and she handled it like a trooper!!!!

I am beginning to hate NBC more and more.

Bob Costas is a tool!!!!

Yes. I am an Alicia Sacramone fan because of how well she handled herself. I noticed the exact same thing about how obviously NBC was desperate for her to break down and bawl on camera.

**** that.

Good on you, Alicia Sacramone. You saw what they were doing, composed yourself, and basically gave them the bird. Very well done. And very American.

They lost me at the opening ceremony by overdoing the "lost boy" angle of the U.S. flagbearer, but I have a very low tolerance for unnecessary drama.

Phelps is a giant, though and I am proud to be an American who gets to live during his performances. I remember the coverage of Mark Spitz (barely) and cannot believe that his record is even at risk (no jinx for Phelps).

I was 10 yrs old in 72 when Spitz did his deal. Within a week, every kid has a red, white and blue swim suit even though summer was almost over. I remember following it closely on TV and reading every article I could get my hands on. The 72 games were very intriguing, with Spitz and the massacre of the Israeli athletes. Also Dave Wottle's fantastic 800 meter finish, Frank Shorter winning the marathon, Dan Gable kicking all kinds of *** in wrestling (I don't think he lost a point), and worst of all, the basketball team getting royally ******.

Isn't there some sort of unwritten rule against asking the "how do you feel?" question? It so amateurish, yet more often than not, that is all some of these "reporters" can muster. It's bad.

But I do like all the coverage of the actual events on multiple stations in HD.

I like NBCs coverage for the most part, but Andrea Cramer is hideous, knowns nothing about swimming and asks stupid questions. Its abudantly clear that she comes up with her vapid questions before the race even starts. After Phelps won the 7th gold by 0.01 seconds, swimming his competetion down over the last 5 meters, she has some ridiculous questions about "in the 112 years of olympic history only 1 man has won this many medals and you have now matched him, how do you feel?" Oh, bravo Andrea, brilliant! Any ******* high school student news paper sports editor could have come up with something more interesting.

The "tell me how you feel!" questions are so formulaic and predictable. I don't even know why reporters like Andrea Kramer bother asking them, except for lack of anything more original and substantive.

I remember once watching a NASCAR race where some driver blew his engine out with five laps to go. He was in the running for the points lead, and the mishap ruined his chances. The idiot reporter asked him, "So, tell me how you are feeling right now?" Of course, the driver was gracious in communicating his obvious disappointment. But just once, I wish one of these guys would answer, "I'm ******* pissed. I'm going to go find the nearest bar and drink heavily for a while. Thank you for asking."

Now THAT would make for an entertaining post-event interview.

Andrea Kramer is awful. She's old, ugly, negative, and annoying.

They should have put Erin Andrews in a swim suit to cover the swimming. She would be an international star right now.
