NBA Playoffs

I can't count the number of times Lebust would have the ball on the wing in the 4th quarter and almost immediately pass out He wouldn't even try and attack the basket. Then the Heat would pass around the top until there were 4 seconds left on the clock and jack up a bad shot. They look for Lebust to initiate their O, and he just laid down. He was a coward in Cleveland and he was a coward in the finals. He's scared to make the big plays when you need him the most. If Miami wins a title, it won't be because of him.

Look, LeBron deserves a lot of flack for this performance, but let's not act like he's doomed, or ignore the many big-time performances he's had in the past (as recently as the Chicago series, where Wade played poorly but LeBron dominated both ends of the floor).

I find it interesting that we just saw Dirk - who until this past season had played a good chunk of his career with a better supporting cast than LeBron ever had - go 12 seasons before getting a ring, and we saw Kidd go 16 seasons before finally getting one - (granted it's a little bit different for Kidd since he's way past his prime, even though he still is a key contributor), and yet we have all these grandiose declarations that a guy who's gone 7 years without one is definitely never going to win a title.

He's clearly mortal, but let's not bury him just yet.

If playoff stats are all the matter because the playoffs are bigger than the regular season, what about final game stats since those are the biggest of all? Hard to get much worse than 6 of 24 in a game 7. Heck, Dirk was 9 of 27 in the deciding game. He did step up in the 4th to keep the Heat from making a big run, but if he hadn't have started out so poorly the game might have already been over by then.

Regardless of whether all that means anything or not, it sure is interesting to me that the past 2 Finals MVPs shot a combined 15 of 51 in the deciding games.

Nuclear,

Does Kobe have compromising photos on you?

Half your post is arguing against the opposite of what I said. I'm not trying to argue that Dirk and Kobe aren't good players because of one game.

Do we both agree that without Kobe in games 1-6 there wouldn't have been a game 7, and without Dirk in games 1-5 there wouldn't have been a game 6? No matter how much bad you can say about them in one game, it doesn't take away from what they did before. No matter how much bad you can say about LeBron in one series (and you can justifiably say a lot), it doesn't take away from what he did before. Without him bailing out Wade earlier, Chicago is in the Finals instead of Miami.

My point was you can't use "They shot horribly in deciding games" to override a larger body of performance that shows Kobe and Dirk to be top notch players. And similarly, you can't use these Finals to override a larger body of performance that shows LeBron to be a top-notch player.
