national anthem

HHD That rendition was awesome

To be clear the NFL takes over the stadium completely and controls everything
about the game including all the talent.

I'm sure her movie is just as impressive as her "remix" of our anthem. Just in case you needed a reason not to waste 90 minutes of your life, ya just got one.

Just my 0.02 worth, should be the service academies/armed forces that provide for the singing. Best rendition I ever heard was at a Spurs game sung by 4 TMI students achapelo (sp?)

How about Americas best and brightest instead of all these drugged out entertainers.

jim cornelison does it perfect. if the bears had beaten the packers (with caleb hanie), he should have done it at the superbowl

i'm not exactly president of the christina aguilera fan club and while plenty of people obviously get through the song with no problems, i don't envy anybody singing the national anthem in front of a 100 million person audience. while the second half of the song flows pretty well, the starts of the second, third, and fourth lines are just a jumble of practically interchangeable subordinate clauses (i think that's the grammar term i'm looking for) whose order isn't hard to mix up if you start concentrating on something else (like holy crap, 100 million people are watching me, hope i don't screw up) even a little bit. even reading it on a page each line doesn't really flow into the next one, but by the time you sing it over 45 to 60 seconds it pretty much loses all meaning and is just a random string of words. if any part of your brain shorts out in the heat of the moment, it's not that hard to forget which word/line should be next.

start the second line with "whose broad stripes and bright stars" instead of "what so proudly we hailed" and it doesn't really sound weird until you get to "through the perilous fight." and if you started the third line with "o'er the ramparts" it wouldn't sound wrong until you started stretching out "gallantly streaming" and realized you still had a line to go and must have skipped one.

we all like to think how could anybody forget the lyrics to THE NATIONAL ANTHEM, I know the words, but considering mistakes keep being made, and by people who have probably performed it quite a few times, it can't be that easy once the pressure is factored in.

Agree with the earlier post that it was the worst since Rosanne. There's not too many stand out anthems from Superbowls, but youtube Whitney Houston singing it for the Giants-Bills bowl back in the day. Best ever.

Theres no excuse for screwing up the words. Its not that long of a song. Pitch, sure, now that is something that can be a *****, especially on the anthem. Anyone whose sung it knows how hard it is rangewise, and with all of the leaps involved. But you cant forget the words.

As I said on the Fergie thread, sing some notes out of tune happens, especially when you are in front of 80,000 people and hundreds of millions of TV viewers. Shes absolutely right about just being human.

Willie Nelson is a ****** singer btw, but Id kill to see him perform live. Its about the perfomance more than it is about the technical skill. Go listen to a produced record and never ever go to a live show.

Anthem = words sucked, general performance was good, if somewhat forced in my opinion

Halftime = Pretty entertaining

I do like the idea of the song being sung by service academies. I accept that CA is patriotic, knows the lyrics and had a temporary loss of words. Honestly, I'm pretty good with words (I actually know what "oer the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming " means) and I lost my place trying to follow her innovative cadence. Anyway, if Francis Scott Key were alive and writing music today he may have written a song about the "reaming" the British Navy took.

At least can't we thank Ms. Aguilera for having a nice figure and strong lungs?

she does have a great voice however. she owns fergie and many pop stars in that department...so what she messed up a little...seriously, the chick has some pipes and talent

Actually, during the Battle of Baltimore, especially for Fort McHenry very few lives were lost. The British navy didn't suffer anything other than futility. Fort McHenry and the debris in the harbor kept them at bay. The British navy did not take a reaming, they were kept from ransacking Baltimore as they had just done to Washington.

After they were turned back at Baltimore the British went on to New Orleans and General Jackson.

I honestly could not name one of her songs, because her genre isn't my thing, but from what I hear she does some good deeds, so I forgive her.

Speaking of philanthropic performers, I wouldn't mind seeing Shakira sing the anthem while belly dancing.

With that large video board, why didn't they just showcase the Enrico Pallazo version of the national anthem? You can't top that one.

It really annoys me for someone to trick up the National Anthem, and this was really offensive. Just have a band play and let everyone sing along.
