Nasty Fans at UTEP?

Personally, I plan to eat at Cattlemans and go visit with My Horns at the Education Bldg and then go enjoy the game. Who's with me?

Stay away from Juarez. There's so much random shooting that people are getting killed in the crossfire.

I'm a alumnus of both UTEP and UT, undergraduate at one and graduate at the other. You're going to find some jerks who will give you a hard time but nowhere near Ohio State fans. A lot of people are like me who went to both schools and have dual loyalties.

If you're interested in visiting a Miner fan forum, try KyyotesDen.com. I will warn you there are no limitations on language use and censorship is non-existent.

Btw, the first year I attended Texas games was 1977, when Earl Campbell was playing. I was also a T.A. for a course that he was taking and I graded all his work.

loop, i spent april through june in el paso, and the game is the talk of the town. how cool it is that texas is coming to play utep is generally thrilling and invigorating to the city and its population. most people just want to be part of the spectacle and hope beyond hope that utep can even compete. i never claimed to speak for all mexicans, as i am not being mexican at all. simply stating that this is the culture that dominates el paso, and in general, through experience, have found it to be an inviting one. so let me know if that helps, or if i can try to water what i said down any further for you. i know its harder to imply points such as this with just text, and i thought i had done a decent job in doing so.

I had hoped my winky face showed I was messin' with ya. It was just funny...nevermind, you get it now.

I agree that the city will embrace the Horns. I know a few people from there and they were ecstatic when Texas won the MNC in 05, overjoyed. I had never really thought about their fans being anything but fun and welcoming till this thread. I still don't think they will be bad.

As it was said, there are ******** everywhere. It is a System school and a Texan school that does not hump sheep, grab nuts, cheat prolifically nor pretend they are military (among a long list of other sad and embarrassing things) like somebody else we all wish we did not know.

Retune your sarcas-o-meter to detect winky faces, por favor.

I never been to a game in El Paso, so I can't comment. Columbus is hands down the worst place I've ever been. Their fans increased my appreciation for Sooners and Aggies. In contrast, I though UCF was kind of cute. They were so excited about their new stadium--sort of like a high-end high school.

and there comes on of the first idiots....they posted this thread on that kyyotewhatever utep forum, so im guessing there will be more. anyway, like i said enjoy el paso, hopefully ill run into some of you dudes, and then you can tell me how awesome the tailgating is there. when it all comes down to it i guess its all about this--->

to me anyway...

Your going to be in one of the most hostile, loud stadiums you've seen, and i say this knowing you play Oklahoma and the Buckeye's......oh yeah, and good luck....hope you in you team make it out of there in one piece!

Okay...Mr. Miner....I can tell the Sun Bowl will be rockin....LOL!
We'll all meet coach Price at the titty bar afterwards...Will he be using cash or the UTEP credit card.

What I wonder is how many Horns in addition to me root for the Miners and hope they do well (except this game, of course)? I root for them and am happy when they win. I was glad that Price went there and that they gave him a chance.

I hope they go to a bowl game this year and win it. I am sure that the above is not representative of their fanbase. Hopefully in time better examples will make their presence known. Also, hopefully good fans or posters will rep on their boards.

I wish I were going. EP is a fun town and I imagine the UTEP fans will be high as a kite when the Big Boys come to town. I also would imagine that they won't act up too badly because they are going to want the Horns to come back!

Going to second the vote to visit Cattleman's out in Fabens.

If I can manage to unfork my UTEP ticket situation with Bellmont, I'll actually get to watch the dang game in addition to having a steak at Cattleman's, heh.

looking forward to a great game at the Sunbow... it really is a a great game atmosphere! Be safe for the ones traveling and Go Miners!

I like watching games on tv that are played there. Cool looking stadium and scenery. It will be a blast for those going. I like that the local economy that will benefit will be a Texas one.

A buddy of mine back during my UT days hailed from EP. He used to mention that a lot of folks out there pull for the Longhorns as well as the Miners. Some nice folks out there...it will be good to bring the big show out to their backyard for a change. The Sun Bowl is a really cool place to play.

Why would you want to go to this game if you're a Miner fan? I mean, think about it...Your first game is in a storybook setting on Lake Erie against the Fighting Turner Gills, and you're expected to get up for a tiff at home against some in-state "rival"??

Great American Steakhouse is better than Cattleman's. Not as much atmosphere, but the steak is unbelievable. First time a friend took me there I was ready to be disappointed. It's in a shopping center, and doesn't look like a "typical" steakhouse. Both are good places, but Great American is better.

I think the UT fans will have a good time in El Paso, and I hope you'll excuse the few jerks you may run into. Hey, we all have a couple that we wish would just shut up or stay home. UTEP is trying hard to improve in football, and as many of the posters in this thread have correctly noted, UTEP and its fans are excited to have Texas come to town. I've seen the Horns play in the Sun Bowl several times (always pulling for them)and always wondered what it would be like to be able to see the Miners play them. Now we're going to find out. Enjoy El Paso, its a great town with friendly people. Go Miners!

Stat, the post was deleted but someone quoted it up there. Sounded as bad as FAU smack.

Is Rosa's Cantina still around? I hear it can get pretty crazy.
