I'd appreciate y'all remembering my son, Chris Standley, in your prayers. Chris is a 22 year old sergeant in the Army Reserves, but his unit was called up and after 3 or 4 weeks in Lawton OK at Fort Sill, they flew out to Kuwait, where he is now. He goes to Iraq proper in a week or two. Assuming nothing much changes in the war situation, he'll be there a year.
The good news is that he is not MP or infantry or artillery, etc. Rather he is in a quartermaster divison, which is kind of a support and supply unit. The bad news is that no one is safe over there. From what he has heard, the convoy (3 days or so) from Kuwait to Iraq is the most dangerous part, as often those convoys are attacked or soldiers are killed/hurt by roadside bombs.
Chris is at that age where it easy to have a devil-may-care attitude, and basically he is pretty much a non-believer in the strict sense of the word. His view of God is a fuzzy one. Though I'm a believer, my wife is not (I'm "unequally yoked"). Chris kind of takes after his mom. If I lose my boy over there, I'm afraid that he will not spend eternity in heaven. Please pray for his safety; I'm hoping that as he matures, he will come to be a Christian. But also pray for his conversion over there...or at least a softening of his heart, so that if he makes it out he'll know who to truly thank and praise someday.
Psalm 91. Thanks!
