My new house is almost done!

I'm nearing the end stages of my house being built. This has been one of my life's dreams (I have small dreams, I know).

The house will be completely customized to fit my needs. I'm going to have a 'smart house.' My entire house -- well, most of it, anyways -- is going to be IP-based. I will be able to control my security system, my lights, my HVAC, and my home audio from any internet connection around the globe. I'm even going to have automatic door openers at both exits so that I can open/close the door via keyless remote.

If anyone wants to see pics, let me know. I have them on facebook and myspace. They're about to put up the sheetrock and everything else will/should go quickly from there, I hope.

I would think that the sucking vortex ever-present in a home owned by a sooner would make the walls collapse in on themselves within the first month.

Why don't you post the login/pass here so we can, uh, admire the geekery. Are you running extra conduit for all of the networked devices? Wireless? Maybe you should RFID tag all of your family members.
 
Before they sheetrock, you might want to have the builder tack in the rolls of insulation in all your interior walls....including the garage. It makes for a VERY quiet house. Might want to roll out some R-19 in the ceiling of the garage too...that'll help keep it 10-15 degrees cooler in summer & 20-25 degrees warmer in winter - if you have insulated garage doors.

It won't cost that much, especially if you do it yourself one afternoon.

My bad. I did not make it clear. I do want him to get rainwater in his house! No, no. I want them to have your rain gutters flow into collection barrels to save that water. It seems like a small thing but helps in the long run.

May the insulation fall into your butt crack and cause itching on the RRS game.

Where the hell is that trailer home colorific contraption located? Some jungle in Nicaragua or something? It can't be mobilhoma as there were trees.
 
I believe he means by "smart house" that one of his nieces graduated from junior high school, elevating the family's status in the entire community.

Id like to hear a little more about the wiring strategy/infrastructure and any media distribution issues you worked through.
 
Nice. What was the makeup of the structured wiring? couple coax, couple cat5/6? What automation and audio distribution hardware did you decide on? Or is that still a little bit off in the future?
