Who do you got?

Last year Dirk won b/c Dallas won 67 and had a shot at 70. To me it wasn't his best season and I didn't like the choice. Nash had improved statistically on his previous 2 MVP seasons and had his team flying high again. Kobe Bryant had come off of his season long scoring fest and had become more team oriented and led his team of nobody's to the playoffs. Lebron had carried his team on his back to the playoffs as well. Still can't believe that Dirk won over Nash, Bryant, and possibly Lebron.

Anyways to this year.

Lebron again is carrying his team on his back. Granted he plays in the East. He is averaging:
30 pts
7.2 assists
8.0 rebounds
.483 FG%

Nash is the same old Nash even with the shuffle at the end of the season. He is averaging:
17.2 pts
11.1 assists
.505 FG%
.475 3Pt%
.904 FT%

Chris Paul is one of the new faces of the NBA I believe. He has his team in 1st or 2nd place at the end of the season. He is averaging:
21.1 pts
11.6 assists
2.7 steals
.485 FG%
.366 3PT%
.851 FT%

Kobe has improved on his team play this year and taken his team from an overachieving bunch that just made the playoffs last year to possibly the #1 seed in the West. He is averaging:
28.4 pts
5.4 assists
6.3 rebounds
.460 FG%
.363 3PT%
.838 FT%

For me this is how it wraps up. Paul is having an amazing season but he is too young to win this MVP with these greats having such great seasons. James is carrying his team and posting amazing #'s but just nothing in his team's record, conference standing, or stats that just jumps out at me to win this. Nash is posting MVP type #'s yet again but his team is behind Paul's in the standings and he has more superstars on his team. I would put Paul ahead of Nash due to this but I would write it in ink and I would probably reverse the order tomorrow. Kobe is hands down the MVP. His scoring #'s are down but we all know he could score 35 a game if he wanted to. Add in the defense he brings in and I don't think there is a player more valuable to their team than Kobe Bryant is to the LA Lakers right now. Having his team in 1st place right now sets him apart from the other guys.

Agreed with your assessment of Paul. He's a personal favorite and even though his numbers equal Nash when he won it back-to-back, this is an MVP year for Kobe.

Another vote for CP3.

It's gonna be Kobe tho.

Jazz fans were chanting MVP for some Jazz player tonight.

As if I needed another reason to hate their team and fans.

To me it is CP3 or LeBron, but Kobe is going to finally get one this year. I think the voters think they can give it to him this year and then forget he ever exist. I mean they can't snub him this year can they?

Kobe absolutely deserves it. The Lakers have had a phenominal year.

I'm pretty sure Kobe has never even finished 2nd in the voting. That's an outright travesty. He's the best player in the league every year.

Kobe should be about to win his 3rd MVP. He put some Lakers teams in the playoffs that had no business being there. And they played Phoenix close in the playoffs with a weak squad. Players like Nash that are a liability on defense should never win the MVP. Good PG's have always punished him. He may score and dish, but they did the same againt him. Good thing he had 2 or 3 other all stars around him. Marion was an all-star without him, and Amare would be also. There is a reason Nash will never win a ring. To me he was given the MVP because of the media's hate for Kobe, as some of the media already said themselves.

This year Kobe had the Lakers at the top of the West without Gasol. Paul has had West(all-star) all year long. Kobe lost a solid man in the middle and things weren't the same. But with Gasol, he has an all star player, and he showed NO who the better team is. Like Lebron and Jordan said, nobody in the league plays both sides of the ball like Kobe.

I love how the people who hate on Kobe when he carries bad teams into the playoffs also hate on him when he leads good teams to 1st place.

Good lord people. Ask anyone who actually works around the NBA who the best player is. 90% of them will say Kobe. Most people don't even recognize that he's one of the league's best defenders.

Kobe, his game on BOTH sides of the ball and been impressive.

Of course, my homer vote would be Garnett, with the biggest point being the Celtics are #1 in all defensive categories.

Kobe has been great all year, and he deserves it.

"This year the MVP should be Chris Paul then Kobe. If the Lakers wouldn't have gotten Paul Gasol they would be in the bottom half of the Western Conference standings."

Funny post. Kobe had the Lakers on top before they got Gasol. But Bynum got hurt and then they got Gasol. If Paul lost the second best player on his team, then NO's would have fell off also. So whats your point? I'll tell you what your point is, if Kobe or Paul lose their second best player, it would have been much harder on their team. If Nash lost his second best player, he still has ALOT of talent around him. They are doing it with less all around talent than Phoenix, yet they are better. It's because Nash is no MVP, should have never been an MVP, because he is a huge liabilty on defense. He'll never win a ring.

I agree with many of the comments. There are some obvious Kobe haters out there and I think they have been outed by other posters and their arguments have been turned upside down. There has been no response b/c there can be none.

Kevin Garnett deserves consideration but I don't think he finishes better than 5th place. 1.23 blocks/game is really down for him and not very impressive. His rebounding is way down...to 9.3/game. Points are down a bit as well. Granted his minutes are less. Boston is very good this year but they also play out East. I would bet if they played the West schedule they would be one of those 3-7 teams....which still isn't very far behind LA but also not the #1 seed in the playoffs either. KG won in 03-04 when he took Minn to #1 in the West. He deserved it then, but doesn't deserve it now.

Previous seasons MVP winners can be debated endlessly. I do think the voters look at the teams record very often in their decisions. If a team is a dominate team and they have a very good or dominate player on that team then they are the league MVP in the minds of many. I can see PG getting many votes, but just can't see him winning over Kobe or Lebron this year. They are having great seasons and likely will be 2 of the greats when they retire (3 titles and 5 NBA finals appearances between them so far and neither is 30).

Last year Dirk won in large part b/c his team had 67 wins and had a chance at 70 for awhile. His #'s are very similar this year to his #'s last year except is shooting % is down slightly....yet his team just has 50 wins and is barely making it into the playoffs. For me last year I think I had Nash, Kobe, Dirk or Nash, Dirk, Kobe...can't remember exactly...Lebron was #4 I believe as well. The way it played out Lebron had carried his team into the playoffs and then showed why he deserved votes by taking his team into the Finals. Kobe had carried his team into the playoffs and showed why he deserved votes by giving the Suns a run for their money. Nash had improved statistically on his previous 2 seasons and took his team deep into the playoffs giving SA a serious run for their money, and thus lost to the eventual champions. What did Dirk and Dallas do? I for one saw that coming as he is not a dominate player, is not a real MVP candidate any year and often chokes in the playoffs. That is just the way I see that.

I think Nash winning the 2 previous season the voters didn't want to give him 3 straight, plus he is Canadian. Kobe could have won last year but that #67 just played too strong in the minds of many voters. This year they will make up for that mistake and give it to Kobe.

Did Kobe have sex with some of your girl friends or something? Who has Kobe thrown under the bus. Because when the facts came out, it sure wasn't Shaq. The truth was he asked to keep Shaq around, or he would look elsewhere. Some people like to hate people. He's arrogant, so are many other players. He's asked to be traded, so have many other players. But he made things happen by asking for a trade. He cheated on his wife, so have many other players. He snitched on Shaq, which was very weak. Yall really hate him more than anyone else because he is the best, and nobody can do anything about it. And you probably want to believe he raped that girl. Well hate on haters, he is the best, and he's the MVP.

man i really don't get how KG has been mostly overlooked in MVP talk. he really revitalized that team and has played fantastically, especially on the defensive end.

"I don't have a problem with Kobe winning it, but Chris Paul is the most deserving."

How is Paul the most deserving? He played with an all star ALL YEAR, Kobe did not. He played with Gasol for less than 30 games. Bynum got hurt and missed most of the season, and some how the Lakers still finished first in the West. I just don't think Paul is more deserving, not at all.
