Music Stores in Austin

for Guitars, I think the three that I think have the best stock are:

1. Guitar Resurrection on Guadalupe (shares the same parking lot as Ray's Steakhouse) -- a lot of high end stuff like Bogner amps.

2. South Austin Music on south Lamar -- Great selection, cool people

3. Austin Vintage Guitars on south Lamar -- haven't been there in a while but they had some great old stuff last time I was there.

if you want a wider range of instruments I think you want to go to Strait.
 
I like going to Music Makers. They have hooked me up with good deals and seem to stock some of more difficult to find guitar/bass effect pedals i.e. Moogs, Mayer etc... Bass Emporium is great too. Especially if you want some great bass amps/cabs/pre-amps. B.E. carries mostly custom made bass guitars although you can find a Rickebacker or Fender Jazz bass on consignment. John is real cool at Bass Emporium.
 
Thanks. I have just recently started playing guitar again and needed to know about the stores in Austin. I hadn't picked up a guitar since moving from Dallas three years ago. The only music store I had ever seen was Mars Music by the HEB north of campus, and that closed a while ago.

On the topic of guitars, can anyone recommend a good guitar tech? The hex nut on my truss rod is stripped.
 
go to guitar resurrection for repairs and stuff.

strait and hennings are so overpriced it's silly.

i have bought multiple guitars from south austin music on lamar.
 
I went to Music Makers today and they seemed pretty good. Not sure how their prices were compared to other places (since they are the only store I have visited) but they prices seemed good.
 
I am thinking about getting an acoustic guitar. I have looked at several brands including Seagull's and Taylors. I haven't really done much research on acoustic guitars yet, other than the thread I started on Cactus Cafe about acoustics. I am not going to get one until Christmas at the earliest, so I have a lot of time to look.
