Moving screen

Apparently the moving screen is no longer a foul as Chandler and West move all over the place yet never get called for it. I'm not saying the spurs don't do it, only saying that I've never seen it so blatantly done w/o a foul call.

Seriously, how the hell does Joey Crawford get assigned to the Spurs biggest game of the year on the road? How does he even get considered for assignment to this game? Someone had to be at least chuckling when the assignments were given. Look at the free throw difference in the second half (which is not THE sole reason the Spurs lost) and add the fact that he has this game and it at least opens the conversation b/c of the recent history. What was good defense on one side wasn't on the other, and he was on that baseline. It shows you the NBA is more about the storyline than the games. I feel like I am watching old school WWF and he is the "guest referee."

Tony Parker quit driving to the hole in the 2nd half. Not sure it would have mattered though. Once NO started hitting their shots SA was not going to win this game. You can't get a foul call throwing up jump shots most of the time. NO was the more aggressive team in the 2nd and SA just didn't match their intensity.

The current Spurs playbook is primarily based on moving picks and flex screens, so this claim doesn't hold water. I don't fault them for it, because they push the rules to the limit and get away with it... but I sure hate watching it. The resulting offensive sets remind me of a bunch of twelve year olds on a bumper car track. It does accentuate quick guard play with good handles while creating a lot of open jumpers and flashing to the basket. However, any resemblance to the glory-days of the 80s up-tempo, fundamentally sound NBA is merely cosmetic, in my opinion.

Look at this unusually lucid and foresighted 2006 article from resident Page 2 asshat Bill Simmons for a brief discussion of this trend (about half way down under bullet point #5.)

Right. If a precedent hadn't been set, players would not expect it. Rookies don't expect favorable calls, but veterans do. For some reason Duncan doesn't get the calls he did 5 years ago. That or his skills are diminishing.

I agree. The refs suck.

But that doesn't justify expecting favoritism from the officials. You can't expect to be taken seriously when you are asking for the officials to play favorites in your team's favor.

Moving screens are always in the eye of the beholder. Not saying they don't happen, but if you go to the Kansas board, they ***** about this consistently, especially when they watch UT.

I get in enough trouble for what I do say... that was Huck...

Duncan's skills are diminishing, but I think he further hurts himself by complaining about EVERY SINGLE FOUL THAT IS EVER CALLED AGAINST HIM. I kid you not--watch him the next couple of games, and watch him do the wide-eyed "Who, me?" face and/or ***** about every single foul. Refs don't like being shown up and so it's no wonder that Duncan may not be getting kid glove treatment any more.

Also, any Spurs fan complaining about the OTHER TEAM setting moving screens is pretty hilarious, or ironic, or both.

If Tim Duncan was called for fouls for the same things he ******* about not getting calls on, he'd foul out of every game...in about one half.

I remember when Dallas played San Antonio in the playoffs two years ago, Dallas would have 3 centers who were trying to guard Duncan, with 2 or 3 fouls each in the 1st half. Meanwhile, Duncan was playing more physical than any of the Dallas players & he might have 1 foul...and was still bitching for more calls. This repeated itself throughout the series.

So no, I'm not "hyperboling".

There's hardly anything to be bitter about, since Dallas beat San Antonio. I just learned from that series that Duncan is one of the biggest whiningest tits in the league, and gets away with a lot of ****.

if i were a mavs fan, there'd be tons of things to be bitter about, as evidenced by your coach's instant firing.

The biggest whiner in the NBA never played a single minute -- your beloved owner, Cuban. I believe his attitiude and influence has been the biggest reason for Dallas' epic failure in the playoffs the last 3 years. Maybe the new coach can change that.
