the original gave me nightmares for years

My parents were watching Scarface when I was a kid and walked int just in time to catch the chainsaw shower seen. I was about 9 or 10. Needless to say, I had trouble with showers for weeks.

American Werewolf in London scene where the wolf makes the quick move at the camera.

Or Flash Gordon when the dude falls on the spike floor and his eyes pop out.

I expected to read the thread and see no mention of those f'in flying monkeys in the Wizard of Oz. Poor scarecrow! I hated those ********.

The Flying Monkeys have been mentioned two or three times already, but I will mention them again. Scared me silly the first time I saw the Wizard of Oz, last week. No, maybe earlier than that.
There was this '50's movie about a pianist whose hand got cut off, and the hand crawled around everywhere and strangled people. I looked for that thing under my bed.
The Tingler was a classic-it was an incredibly strong animal with big pincers that was discovered to be living at the base of your spine in X-rays. It was motivated by fear, and if you didn't scream loudly, it would crawl up your backbone and snap your neck with its powerful bite. Can you imagine the Saturday morning kid's show when this was announced? I never heard so much screaming in all my life. Quite something, really. Then they dropped a fake Tingler on a plant in the audience (balcony was closed for this purpose), and nurses came and carried the poor victim out. Oh, and you had to sign a release to watch the movie, in case you died of fright. They really did it up right on The Tingler.
We used to go every week to those horror/science fiction movies, quite popular in the fifties.
