Morgan Freeman

I like Morgan Freeman. Typically does a good job. But he basically plays the same character in every movie. Or at least he appears to be playing the same character in every movie. Maybe that's the sign of a good actor.

I would throw out Johnny Depp as one of at least the top 5 actors working today. I'm not sure who else I would put up there with him. Probably Daniel Day-Lewis, Javier Bardem, Russell Crowe, and maybe Ralph Fiennes. Depends on if you are talking about lead or supporting actor.

Just my opinion. But you know what they say. Opinions are like ********. Everybody's got one and everyone thinks everyone else's stinks.

I love Morgan Freeman.

Props to the following:

Michael Caine (I swear this guy makes 3 movies a year!)
Robert Downey Jr. (Less than Zero, Chaplin)
Edward Norton (Fight Club)

I am sure there are many I am forgetting...

i put that emoticon in there so yola wouldn't be an ******* about my post.

j/k, buddy

The Insider and Cinderella Man (one of the best movies in many years)

Will Smith is just flat out talented. Hitch (great great movie) and I am Legend (excellent work)

Robin Williams can do it all.

I would add Mel Gibson as well.

Robin Williams performances in Good Morning Vietnam and Good Will Hunting are enough to propel him into at least the second tier of acting greatness.

The moral: be wary of any Williams flick that doesn't have the word Good
in the title.

I also wouldn't consider Robin Williams to be in the same group as these others, but I thought he had a great performance in The World According to Garp

Robin Williams- Pretty good actor when playing a dramatic role. I can not ******* stand him in silly roles or his stand-up comedy routines.

My main issue with Morgan Freeman is that he really seems to only play one role. He's not terribly versatile, but obviously what he does in that type of role is exceptional.

I would second the mention of Gary Oldman. The thing that's remarkable to me about him - and I'll use his work in the Batman movies - is that he just disappears. I didn't even realize it was him playing Gordon until later on. There's no one thing that I look at and say "yeah, that's Gary Oldman" - he just seems to immerse himself in a role, and he seems to be able to do that for a wide range of character types.

Is it possible that Matt Damon is underrated? The guy plays a credible bad-*** in the Bourne movies. He can do comedy (The Informant, guest stars on t.v. shows, I'm F___ Matt Damon, Kevin Smith movies, etc.). He more than holds his own in The Departed versus some heavyweight actors. I thought he was pretty good in The Talented Mr. Ripley. He does a good job with accents (Invictus, south Boston accent, midwest). Does the physical changes to his body (Courage Under Fire- lost 40 lbs in 100 days; The Informant- gained lots of weight). I'm not saying he's # 1, but I think he may be knocking on top 5-10 door.

I thought he was great in L.A. Confidential - not much else since then. Maybe Beautiful Mind.

The insider is still his best roll, cinderella man was good as well.

someone finally mentioned gene hackman and michael caine. nobody brings more intensity to a roll than clint eastwood.
