MLB Draft Thread

Smoak is more likely to dh than win a gold glove. He's really slow. An excellent hitting prospect, though.

Kyle Russell just went to the Dodgers.

Congrats to him.

3rd round, 93rd pick overall

For reference, he went in the 4th round, 142nd overall last year to the Cardinals.

anyone have a list of when our top recruits went, and those still not drafted?

i would love to see Danks come back and be the leader next year

Russell is the only current player to have been drafted so far, and Grossman is the only recruit to have been drafted. I've seen Grossman projected as a late first/early second round pick, so I'd say the odds are pretty good that Texas gets all of their recruits on campus.

As for Danks, I'm pretty surprised that he did not go on day 1. I actually thought it was highly possible that he could have gone before Russell. So this will make things interesting, to say the least.

i read in a statesman article that Tommy Harmon said Russell and Danks would not come back, but I'm sure if Danks slips any further it will become much more complicated.

Depends on what team drafts him. If it's a big money team that can (and will) pay him what he probably think he's worth, then I'm sure it makes no difference to him where he was drafted. But if the same thing happens to him that happened to Russell last year (essentially getting drafted by the wrong team), then I don't see him signing a contract. That doesn't necessarily mean he'll come back to Texas, but it makes the odds a lot more likely.

I would not be so sure on Danks. There is a chance that he goes depending on what team takes him but there is just as good a chance that he stays. If going pro was the most important thing to him he would have gone out of HS. He is a great kid that loves to play the game. Don't be shocked if he comes back for a run at the World Series.
