Missouri Game 3

Last play was a line out to short, he tried to get the dp force at first but threw the ball over the first baseman's head.

Yeeeehaaawwww baby!!! Hell of a NINTH inning rally Horns.

What did I tell you all about going back to old lineup-> Kevin Keyes is the guy who gets it all going and Clark helped out as well. Either way.......good comeback Horns!

Torres lined out to the SS, who tried to double TT at first, but he threw it away.

In the aftermath of the ninth inning heroics, let's not over look the terrific performance by Taylor Jungmann. He did a great job of holding the Tigers, and that really gave us a better chance to win.

that was a thing of beauty. great way to end the weekend. taking the first series is always huge in this conference. i'll take 2 of 3!

That is what pitching depth does .. Keep us in the game and somehwre along the way the bats will come through, or some good things happen ...

GO HORNS!!

Hmmmm. Always pleasing to see the 'Horns start league play with a series win. That said, we do seem to be leaving a lot on base this year. Hopefully, the RISP averages will improve as the season progresses.

Also, has there been a more dramatic improvement in year-over-year ERA? It seems that, no matter whom we start on the mound, he's going to give up no more than two or three runs, tops.

Does anybody know if there is any bad blood between us and Mizzou in baseball? I was at the game and almost before the winning run crossed the plate, most of the Tigers were headed for the dressing room. A few stayed in the dugout looking a little bemused, but none ever came out to shake hands as is the custom following the third game of a conference series. There was a brief exchange between Augie and Harmon and their bench that appeared to be our coaches gesturing for them to get their asses out there to shake hands. After a few seconds the PA struck up The Eyes and after that we headed for the exits.

Just curious if anyone else saw that and might be able to shed some light on what happened. I know Mizzou had to be devastated to lose it that way, but it happens in baseball.

I never remember not seeing a team come out and shake hands after the final game in a series. Maybe we will get some type of explanation later.

My wife heard that they were extremely miffed that interference was not called on the play at first base - I noticed Skip Johnson was angry at their coaching staff (for not coming out) as well. I've heard nothing official, however, and they did not broadcast the post game interview with Augie, so I don't know if it was even mentioned then, I was helping my son run the bases.

edit: bad blood? Was is 31-18 last year? I remember thinking we would get even...

I tuned in just in time to watch the Horns bat in the 9th (ain't the interweb great?) and come from behind to win the game and the series. Way to go Horns

Why would they be miffed about no interference being called on the last play? The runner is trying to get back to first and the throw sails over the first baseman's head.

Yes, I would like a more detailed report on the last play by someone who attended. I couldn't be there, but listened to the last few innings on the radio.
Great comeback-it really boosts a team when they know they can overcome a defecit and win in the ninth, and it boosts the fans to know their team can respond when the chips are down. A lot of good can come out of this win. This is something that had been lacking the last few seasons, and it is great to see the winning attitude return.
Also impressive, as pointed out, the starting pitching, of course Missouri had it as well. But it's more impressive if they are on at the end of the season, let's hope it continues, and injuries do not deplete the staff.
This can be a great team, especially if Keyes, Belt, Rupp and/or one or two others with a little power potential in their bats start connecting.
Should be a fun year.

My own impression:
Mizzou had been hooting and hollering like my 9yo daughter's softball team all series. They'd celebrate after just about every inning when they had a lead. At some point Saturday, both teams began jawing at each other between every half inning. In the bottom of the ninth, they had a couple calls go against them and were getting pretty hot. Hell, their catcher was literally pleading with the home plate umpire when Tant got HBP. In his defense, Tant didn't even appear to think he was gonna get a base because he stepped out and adjusted his gloves and helmet like he was gonna step back in the box. Anyhow, with all this stuff going on, after the errant throw to first, I think emotions started getting the best of both teams. I'd even venture to say Texas celebrated the win more than I am typically accustomed to seeing, but ****, it was a fard fought game and on our turf, so what the hell.

Anyhow, it appears Mizzou wasn't real happy with how it turned out, and even less so with our celebration and the jawing got pretty fierce. Skip ended up coming out on the field, and basically made sure BOTH teams just got to their dugouts. I believe his words to BOTH teams were something along the lines of "Get your asses to the lockerroom!".

Overall, it was just kids on both sides ready to vent after a VERY good series, and Skip diffused the situation.

FYI, the Missouri and Texas coaches shook hands as usual near home plate.

It was the team that didn't come out, not the coaches. Given the antics and the comments by some of their players (and our players predictable reactions), it was probably for the better.

I agree, the throw was a little wide, not high. Travis sliding back in blocked the view of the first baseman and was I believe between the first baseman and the ball. Then when he got the ball in front of the Texas dugout his throw was well up the line. Not even a close play at home. The kids just reacted. Basically the same as when they came from behind to beat UTA. Seeing that kind of excitement is great. Both teams probably reacted how you would think. Texas was elated. Missouri was deflated. Sure cant blame our guys for enjoying the moment. They are rated high and with that comes being a target. They came from behind and had a really nice win. Good job guys.

Here is the weird part: I was sitting on the 3b side, and the firstbaseman threw the ball right where he was looking - about 1/3 of the way up the line. He seemed a little dis-oriented when he came up with the ball.

The first baseman appeared to have forgotten that the winning run was even on third and breaking for home. His look of confusion while he just stood there before throwing the ball wildly up the line was almost comical.

Does anyone actually think that Tucker could have POSSIBLY been called for interference on the play at 1st from what you saw? My vantage from the 3rd base side sucked!

I agree. It was like he hesitated before realizing what was happening. Then the throw was way up the third base line. Almost like he didnt have a good grip on the ball. And no, I dont think Tucker could have been called for interference. He slid to the bag. His back was to the ball so he didnt know where the throw was even going.
