Yes, the game is still on. It may be damp and dank in Austin, but it's worse in most of Texas as here in northeast Texas it's in the 30's with freezing rain scheduled for after midnight and then snow till Tuesday afternoon. Of course any cold weather transforms Disch-Faulk into the frozen north. That is one cold place in weather like this and I speak from much experience on this topic.

Texas looks to sweep the series and keep it's winning streak going. Kacy Clemens will get the start for Texas and looks for a better day on the mound than his first start as a Horn

Minnesota just wants to win a game period after dropping six in a row on this Texas swing to start their season.

Will get some lineups and start the cold proceeding in about 25 minutes.

The Texas lineup for today:

Johnson-LF
Shaw-RF
Hinojosa-SS
Barrera-C
Marlow-2B
Boswell-3B
Cantu-1B
Gurwitz-CF

The Minnesota lineup:

Motl-CF
Schaefbauer-2B
Fiedler-DH
To. Hanson-1B
Handel-SS
Smith-LF

Clemens warms up on the mound and hopes to stay warm in this weather.

He steps in the right handed batter's box and waits for Clemens first pitch.
The count goes full and a liner to right is chased down by Shaw for one away.

Connor Schaefbauer, the second baseman bats lefty with one down.
A big change is swung on and missed for two away.

Matt Fiedler, the DH bats right handed with two down.
A ground ball to second goes 4-3 to retire the side.

Clemens gets Minnesota in order in his first home start.

Texas comes to bat.

Kunik, a big right hander pitches for Minnesota.

Johson leads off from the right side.
He sends one up the middle for a single.

He flies to shallow left for one down.

A high pop off the fists is caught by the shortstop for two away.

Barrera steps in righty with two gone and one on.
The hot hitting Tres in this series watches Johnson take off and steal the bag with ease.
A runner in scoring position now and the count runs full.
He fouls off several pitches and draws a walk and Johnson again goes on the pitch and steals third.

Runners on the corners with two down for lefty hitting Marlow at clean up again today.
He ropes a liner over the right fielder to the base of the wall.
Two runs score on the double and Marlow goes to third as the relay home gets away from the catcher.

Texas leads 2-0.

Probably two rbi's and an error to allow Marlow to go to third.

Boswell bats lefty with two down and a runner at third.
A curve that Boswell swings through is a K to retire the side.

Texas out to the early lead though at 2-0 after an inning.

Clemens looks to protect his newly minted lead in the second.

Toby Hanson, the Golden Gopher first baseman bats lefty to lead off.
He rings him up looking on a fast ball on the outside corner for one down.

A full count and a high fly to shall center is one away.

Gurwitz in center today bats righty with one gone.
Another full count is reached and he is issued the walk.

Mathis, the freshman DH bats in the nine hole from the left side.
With one on and one down, the pitcher calls time and it looks like he is injured in some way.
I think Neal Kunik is done and since nobody was up in the Minnesota pen, this could take awhile.
The new pitcher will get all the warm up pitches needed and with a time limit that says no inning can start after
4 pm today this could help shorten the game if it doesn't move along briskly.

Pitching change.

The new pitcher is Lance Thonvold, big right hands as all the Minnesota pitchers have been big physically.
He is warming up in the bullpen instead of on the field.

When he finally comes to the regular mound he will one on and one out

His first batter to face will be Mathis, the freshman DH.
He finally steps in the lefty box and the game resumes.
Halloran has also come in to catch for the Golden Gophers for some reason.
A four pitch walk puts two on.

He K's swinging on pitch in the dirt and the catcher picks it up and tags him to complete the out for two away.

The Golden Gopher head man is back out to the mound, but leaves the big righty in.
The count runs full as Hinojosa steals second without a throw.
He draws the walk.

Bases loaded for Marlow now with two down and he can add to his two rbi double day.
The coach is back to bring in a left hander to face him.

Pitching change.

The latest Minnesota pitcher is left hander is Jordan Jess, who worked yesterday.

Marlow steps in and tries to break this one wide open.
He rips one to left for two more rbi's and a single.

Texas leads 6-0.

Boswell bats with two on and two down and is hit by a pitch to reload the bases as Texas has batted around.

Cantu bats with the bases loaded and can put it out of site.
The count runs full and the merry-go-round will start.
They all go on the pitch and a high fast ball is ball four.

Texas leads 7-0.

Gurwitz up now with two down and the bases loaded.
A fly ball to right finally ends the big inning for Texas.

Well the only thing to worry about now is if Clemens got still during that long half inning.

Two innings played and no way this is going nine now and maybe there is a ten run rule in effect today.
Texas leads 7-0.

Clemens back out and gets some extra warm up pitches after that long at bat.

Skjefte leads off for the Golden Gophers.
He grounds to first and a 3-1 as Clemens covers is one down.

He calmly goes to first with no sign of injury as the first Minnesota base runner of the game.

Boxwell from the left side with one on and one down.
He walks on four pitches to put two on.
This brings Skip out from the third base dugout as you might expect.

Motl back at the top of the order bats with two on and one down.
A liner screamed back to Clemens and he somehow flags it and then staggers and recovers and the flip to second
is a 1U-6 double play to retire the side. He could really show the leather at first last year and now he does it on the mound. What a play!

Bottom of three and Texas leads 3-0.

Thonvold out for his first full inning in the Texas third.

Mathis at DH is back up leading off from the left side.
A little nubber back to the mound is a 1-3 out one.

Tyler Hanson is the new pitcher for Minnesota and another big right hander.

Marlow leads off and lines one that the shortstop catches for one down.

Boswell up with one down and he lines a fast ball to right for a single.

Cantu bats righty with one on and one down.
He bleeds one back to the mound and it's a 1-3 second out as the pitcher never looked at second and he had a play there.

Gurwitz up with two down and one on.
He puts a charge into one to right center and it rolls to the wall and he scampers all the way around to third for a rbi
triple.

Texas leads 8-0.

He shoots a liner to center that is charged and caught to retire the side and denies Mathis his first hit as a Horn.
That ends the inning.

Texas leads 8-0 after four.

Clemens out for the fifth and looks to complete this inning and get the win.

Halloran up and another foul pop goes the same way and again caught by Boswell for two away.

Boxwell bats lefty with two down and he K's swinging on fast ball to retire the Golden Gophers yet again in order.

Halfway through the last game of the series and Texas owns it 8-0 as Clemens looks like he will get his first win as

A grounder up the middle to the shortstop who flips to second for a 6-4 force to end the inning.

Five played in the ever colder Disch and Texas in command 8-0.

Clemens day is over and it was a good one for him. The new Texas hurler is left hander Travis Duke.

He faces the top of the Minnesota order in Motl.
The right handed hitter grounds to short for the 6-3 first out.

Schaefbauer bats lefty with one down.
He takes a fast ball the other way on the ground through the left side for a single.

Fiedler bat righty with one gone and one on.
A ground ball to second and the batter stumbles out of the box and it's an easy 4-6-3 twin killing to retire the side.

Bottom of the sixth as the game picks up pace and Texas still leading 8-0.

Hanson still on the hill for the Golden Gophers in the sixth.

Marlow leads off in the clean up slot of the order from the left side.
A one hopper goes from Hanson to Hanson for one down in a 1-3 first out.

Boswell bats lefty with one down.
He grounds one just fair to first and the Hanson to Hanson duo makes another put out this time 3-1 for
two away.

Cantu bats with two down.
He walks to put a runner on.

Gurwitz up with two down and one on.

Here comes the Minnesota coach and he wants another arm.

Pitching change.

A ground ball off the hands rolls to first to Cantu and he makes the play unassisted for the second out.

His liner is caught on a leap by Marlow at second to retire the side in order.

They stretch in the cold in Austin as Texas is coasting 8-0.

Fieldler is still on the mound as Texas bats in the seventh.

Mathis, the freshman DH looks for his first hit still as a Horn.
No hit as he walks on four pitches.

Johnson up one more time with one on.
Another rip and the single through the hole on the left side is his 20th hit of the season to lead the nation.

Shaw with another hot stick bats with two on.
A change fools him and the swinging K is one gone.

Hinojosa up righty again with one down and two on.
C.J. in another mini slump is hitless today.
He walks to again load the bases.
If there is a ten rule today another knock could end this thing.

Barrera up with bases loaded and one down is a good candidate to get that hit.
But he doesn't as he takes a fast ball down the middle for a called strike three. emoticon still wanted for this.

Marlow bats with the bases full and two down.
A fly ball to center ends the inning and we may never know if there was a ten run rule

Seven innings played and we may actually get this puppy in before the curfew, would never have thought that earlier.

Texas leading 8-0.

Texas has a new pitcher in righty Tyler Schimpf in the eighth.

Skjefte leads off the eighth for the Golden Gophers.
He slices a fly ball that lands in front of Johnson in left on a hop for a lead single.

Motl for perhaps the last time I hope, brings the top of the Golden Gopher order up.
A cutting fast ball tails away and is swung on and missed for a K for two down.

Schaefbauer up lefty with two on and two down.
A balk is called on Schimpf as he failed to pause on a pitch.
The runners move up to second and third.
Another tailer of a fastball gets the outside corner and he is down looking to retire the side.

Minnesota just can't buy a rbi hit and to the bottom of the eighth it's still 8-0 Horns.

Fieldler back to the mound for the Longhorn eighth.

Boswell leads it off for the Horns from the left side.
A full count to him and he walks.

Cantu bats with one on.
A ground ball to short goes 6-4-3 for a double play and two down.

Gurwitz bats with two away and the bases now clear.
He takes a curve for a called third strike to end the inning.

He flies to center to Gurwitz and that's the game and series.

Texas sweeps away Minnesota with a 8-0 victory today in the cold in Austin.

Let's listen to Augie and come back and wrap up the weekend.

Well said Augie I think, as his mic cut out on every other word. The cold at the Disch strikes again.

It may have been Minnesota weather, well maybe in early fall type Minnesota weather, but Texas looked the same as
they did when it was in the 80's on Saturday.

Clemens with a much needed good outing and the bats kept going today and it lead to another rout.

Texas sweeps the four game series with three straight shutouts, the only two runs scored by the Golden Gophers were both unearned and not just good hitting by Texas, but slugging with multiple extra base knocks.

Let's be honest here, Texas played well, but they should sweep this Minnesota team at this time of year in Austin.
The Golden Gophers won't remind anybody of the 1927 Yankees with the bats or even Rice. They would get ahead on counts and then swing at bad pitches and make outs fighting off many ball fours.

The Minnesota pitching was ok at times, but they aren't Rice either. Texas did what they needed to do and did it in pretty impressive fashion. Three shutouts and no earned runs is not shabby against anybody and it's nice to see not only hitting again, but power hitting from the Horns, new ball or not.

It was a well played series by Texas and this team should get nothing but better as the season goes on. Get on board because if Clemens rounds into shape as a starter along with the freshman Mayes and somebody can take the closer role or even if it's done by committee, then this team should be very good. The hitting could make it great if it can continue throughout the year. :hookem2::bevo:
