Michelle Obama's Princeton Thesis

I am not understanding the reaction to her 22-year-old thoughts. She expresses feeling like others view her as an outsider, and thus she starts feeling like one. Is that surprising? Is that an indictment of her character? Seems really silly-to-misguided to pass judgment on someone else's personal feelings decades ago.
 
Wait, Republicans think it's a bad thing that someone didn't enjoy hanging out with "white liberals" in college? I thought that would make her one of ya'll?
 
Wait, a black women from the inner city of Chicago went to a very upperclass, mostly white college - and she wrote a paper over it?
Whats the big deal?
 
The story is coupled with her saying for the first time in her adult life she is proud of this country
doesn't appear she has changed her opinion much in 25 years.
some people have suggested they don't want a woman for first lady who couldn't find anything to be proud of about her country for 25-26 years
 
we're also talking about Princeton here. it's a pretty unique place even among the Ivies.

my friend went to Princeton for a masters degree after graduating from Michigan and found that he never fit in and he was just a white kid from the midwest.
 
Discussing the composition of a candidate's supporters is a worthwhile topic. Discussing (attacking) another poster on the board is a sign of a bad poster or a good one making a mistake.
 
Obama is going to beat John McCain and it may not be close. That statement means about as much as you claiming Obama cant win. Obama is stronger than you want to believe. I'm sure you were in the group that had Hillary set to lock things up by Super Tue and thought her winning was a eventuality from the beginning
 
Laphro, there's no substance behind your stance either. Your analysis of history is commendable, but your refusal to analyze the present sort of destroys your argument.
 
He (and even Hillary even though I cant stand her) offers change compared to the last 8 years of Republican rule with Bush in the White House. The numbers show people are sick of everything Bush and like it or not the Republicans are tied in with that right now

Rather you want to admit it or not McCain having to show he isnt more of the same (when he is in several area's) is going to be a big issue

I do apologize for the shot. I did not intend it as a personal shot but as sarcasm about the topic, not about the poster personally. El Guapo is right, it is intellectually dishonest, but the worse sin was the impression that it was a personal shot at Bill, and for that I regret both the implication and its effect. Rhetoric, when mishandled, is a very dangerous weapon in an argument.

Not a defense, but I posted before I spent the day down at the Disch Falk parking lot basking in the sun, drinking beer and watching Sooners shuffle back to their cars from the Drum, and this is my first chance to redeem my post.

No problem. I am in no way a racist, and perhaps I shouldn't judge someone's writing from 20 years ago. Sorry if I gave the wrong impression.
