Michelle Obama's Princeton Thesis

Damn, i wish i could have gotten into Princeton. In her thesis, she claims she does not fit in with the white liberal students. Even at UT in the 1970's, I had many black friends and got along just fine. Link

With each passing day, I become more and more envious of people working for conservative 527s. Their work will be easier than usual this year.

Dick Morris said that the Republicans made a mistake in going after Hillary so hard in '92 and '96. He said the attacks on Teresa didn't work very well either. He said the spouse doesn't gain or lose the votes one would think. He said you have to hit the candidate. I think he's correct.

I think he's wrong, especially in the case where a "co-presidency" is likely. Interesting that he cites 3 cases in which the Dems didn't get a majority as cases in which a GOP plan backfired. In any event, both Barack and Michelle seem to be going out of their way to vindicate every stereotype of the American left.

would any of you like to be judged by anything you wrote when you were 22?

she's probably like everyone else - she's embarrassed by her undergraduate writing.

It's a well-written paper. And typed on a typewriter too, so I'm sure she has clear memories of writing it as that is much more laborious than word processing.

It's fairly obvious though in her mind as well she would "always be black first and a student second" and she sees her fellow students as white first and students second.

Heck, the entire paper is about the degree to which black Princeton graduates identify with black culture vs. white culture.

I suppose that we can add hate to the themes that the Republicans will exploit in this election if Obama gets the nomination in addition to fear and an appeal to cowardice born out of 9/11. I read the paper and find introspection about a young woman's sense of racial identity and how it will translate as she becomes an alumnus. How this translates into the fitness of her (then future) husband to hold the office of President of the United States will be an exercise in political logic which I will watch with interest, as I vote Democratic.

I wonder if we can dredge up some statement that John McCain, under duress and torture, was forced to sign while he was a prisoner of war. I wonder if we can dredge up the racial card that Republican sleeze artists played on McCain while he was running against Bush in the Carolina primary, by making the racial identity of his adoptive daughter a negative test of his character. It would appear that some of you are well versed in irrelevant character assassination. Neverthemind the maturity that life and its experiences would grant an individual, let's stoop to this level of **** slinging. Hell, I guess you would agree with the Clintons, since they stooped to bring up Barack's elementary school papers.

This level of political dialogue is why, despite his inexperience and my disagreement with some of his positions, I want Barak to be President. I'm sure you can sell this level of sleeze to the young people of this country who weren't even born when she typed this paper. It seems altogether fitting for those who cling to the hollow past and want the country to stay there to stoop to this to justify their resistance to a change in political atmosphere.

Careful, Bill. Your sheet is showing.

The fact that McCain wants to stay in Iraq forever = automatic loss

People are sick of Iraq and want to get the **** out. No matter what else he says about the war on terror or the economy, he has zero chance of winning the presidency as long as he takes a "we'll stay in Iraq as long as necessary" policy. Thats a deal breaker.

This thread is proof positive that there is a direct correlation between education and political leanings. The more educated you are, the more liberal you tend to be. And of course, the converse is true.

Laphroaig10 is quickly becoming worse than Mr Wizard on the WM. I remember being like that once - then I grew up and realized there are more things out there than pure republican. The people that continue to think Obama has no shot in the national election are humorous if nothing else. It will be fun to hear their spin come Nov.

What i find sad is Michelle apparently felt she didn't fit anywhere. She offers nothing concrete for these feelings,
here:" I have found that at Princeton, no matter how liberal and open-minded some of my white professors and classmates try to be toward me, I sometimes feel like a visitor on campus; as if I really don't belong."

Could it be in her mind only? Apparently nothing was said or done but she " felt". If you go in with a preconceived bias that you are going to be treated differently then you will see what you want to see.
Kinda like people on here accfusing others of being racist with no knowledge that is true BUT that fits what they think they are going to see

Attacking family members is perhaps the poorest strategy out there. If they choose to do this, I guarantee that

a) It will backfire or
b) nobody will care
