JIAM? El Azteca? Cisco's? Angie's? Those are all extremely common places for "west-side" Austinites to eat, and all are well beyond two blocks into "monster" territory .
But, it seemed to me that this thread was specifically about "downtown" Mexican restaurants, and once you go East of IH35, you are no longer "downtown" although you could certainly be considered "close to downtown."
