MEN'S Olympic Soccer: ALL Games, ALL Spoilers

Halftime: Nigeria 1 - USA 0
Orozco sent off in the fourth minute for an elbow.

Okay...Whether FIFA wants a red given for that only determines whether the ref or FIFA is retarded. If you want to start giving straight reds to guys giving elbows then half the teams are ejected after the first corner/dangerous free kick. And imagine all the straight reds given when Italians fall to the ground for a push or fake elbow to the eye. Orozco was not even facing his man....This is the same exact thing the Chinese player was ejected for earlier in the tournament.

Secondly...Robbie Rogers...It would be awesome if he could do more than be fast with the ball as he goes down the wing. Not once have I seen him be able to turn in toward the goal and put pressure on the defense nor has he been able to cross a decent ball.

Thirdly....Our defense doesnt look that bad after the ejection but the offense, especially ball control, looks TERRIBLE right now.

Fourthly....Why do we have to put tape over our shield? Have we done this the whole tournament because I havent noticed it till today? Is it because it says US? Nigeria does not have tape over theirs.

Fifth...The ref....Can we get a foul? One minute of stoppage time...You allow Nigeria to have a corner...They miss the corner but get it back around 30 yards out 20 seconds after the minute is up and yet you continue to make the team thats playing a man down defend. I think that is a terrible decision after stoppage time has already expired.

Heres hoping for the best in our game and that Japan can help us against Netherlands but right now I'm feeling really depressed.

Thanks for the update.

Right now, they are showing tennis in Argentina. (Considering they show soccer games from 1987 during the offseason here, I'm thinking that there might be a local interest. They're not even showing Argentine tennis players.)

Add to that ESPN doesn't even have the game having started and there should be about 15 minutes remaining in the second half.

Red card for an elbow sounds a little like trying to weed out the teams that weren't supposed to do well before the tournament. Not that judging of all sports has been fishing in these Games...

Keep the updates coming. I've got to get ready to teach.

2-1 Final. Had one final dangerous free kick but did nothing with it. So depressed.

That PK for the Netherlands had better have been well deserved.

And seriously....Does anyone like Balboa?

I'm with TexanWolv. I'd like to add some things, though.

I guess if you've got Mexican blood and you can't beat the U.S., join them and then beat them. Yes, I know he's American. Just a really stupid play.

Peter Novak: This guy is an absolute fool. I thought he was bad as a tactition before the Olympics began. Little did I know that he is actually worse in substitution patterns. Beginning with the lack of a sub at the end of the Netherlands game, he continues his buffoonery this morning.

Needing a goal, he takes off Altidore. That's ******* brilliant. THEN, he leaves Robbie Rodgers in for the entire 90. This, despite the fact that Rodgers' mark scored the first goal AND Rodgers was completetly ineffective going forward AND Rodgers actually had TWO shots on OUR goal.

On top of that, he leaves Davies on the bench for 95% of the tourney!?!? That's a good one.
He leaves McBride in for the entire game against the Netherlands AND this morning. Even though anyone with eye-sight can see the that guy is about to keel over from exhaustion.
How about taking off - arguably - the most dangerous player on the pitch (Holden) in the 70th or so minute? That's a good one too.

So, I'd like to thank Orozco, Novak, Adu, Bradley and Parkhurst, in that order, for effing us out of the second round.

Disclaimer: I'm really tired, pissed and frustrated if the above post isn't an indication. In addition to some boneheaded coaching and play, I just really feel for this team. It sucks that sucky Netherlands gets to advance with their play. And it sucks that that last header by Davies had to hit the crossbar.)

OMG. I just saw the PK called against Japan. You know. I really, really, really, really wish that **** like this wouldn't ruin the game. What an absolute tragedy.

I'd just like to say that for me the player of the tournament for us was Holden. Yes, I know against Holland he should have tried passing to the slow guy with long hair who kept passing to Nigeria and he fouled the Dutch guy after the slow guy with long hair who kept passing to Nigeria gave away the ball....But he worked extremely hard all tournament long and consistently put in good crossed on free kicks, something you don't see from the USA.

Disclaimer: I probably would have given this award to Adu but how can you when he misses an entire game.

I'm really upset. We were the best team in our group and we don't even advance.

I didn't expect to win it all, but I wanted to advance to the Quarters. I'm very bummed and my Argentine students have had to listen to it all morning. And they'll hear it again in the afternoon... before I'm finished for the day at 1:30pm.
