McConnell: No real deficit deal until Obama leaves

Bevo, you are the only sane person on this thread. Keep posting man.

To me the issue is simple. This vote should be a formality. The vote isn't raising spending. The spending was approved by other votes. These congresspersons cannot get up on their high horse and say they don't want to increase spending when they have voted for everything (as Bevo mentioned) in the past that has caused the spending to go up so high.

The only ones I give any credibility to are the new members. Their platform coming in was largely in reducing spending, and they don't have many previous votes to contradict their current stance. However this again is not the issue on the table. The issue of the deficit, spending, etc, should be discussed during the budget voting. Or they can put in a balanced budget amendment or something.

Our budget deficits will continue so long as we are involved militarily so heavily around the world. Spending in this area must be cut by 1/4 to 1/3 in the next few years. It is just not sustainable. Either that or the countries that we must assist must start reimbursing us for the cost. We also must increase taxation on wealthy individuals. Decrease tax on corporation with large # of employees so make us competitive globally. Increase SS retirement age to 67 but phase it in so that those over 50 don't be hit so hard. Get rid of caps on medical malpractice or force insurance companies ot pass on the savings to the physicians who pay such high premiums (and ultimately the consumers).....in fact why not just make the physicians buy their insurance contracts from the state who regulates their licenses to begin with....gives the state an incentive to take action on their license if they are costing the state $$$ due to their inabiity to practice sound medicine.

Ryan produced a plan to reduce the size of government. Obama scoffed at it, yet provided no plan in rebuttal. He's not about to reduce anything. Government bankruptcy would actually provide him more avenues of control. See the automobile industry as an example.

That line indicating defense on the graph reflects what Newt Gingrich and the Republicans called the "Peace Dividend" back in the old Contract with America days.
