Mavs remaining schedule

Well, I am no Jason Kidd superfan, but he was actually very good in the playoffs the two years the Nets went to the finals...

2001-2002 19.6 8.2 9.1
2002-2003 20.1 7.7 8.2

(basketball-reference.com)

I would take that from my point guard anyday in the playoffs. Of course, this isn't 2001 and Kidd is about to be 37 years old.

and I think that's the point. when a team is "not that talented" it's hard for any one player to lead them.

Kidd is in the twilight of his career. What he's doing is phenomenal. And I understand that he is a slow defender and that the young guys eat him up. He's just so ******* cerebral and fits so nicely - yes, Burtler and Haywood are absolutely the difference right now - but, guess what? Kidd is the perfect floor general for these guys. This is the oldest team in the NBA. And right now they're second best in the West. Not bad for a bunch of old farts, especially their PG.

p.s.: I'm a season ticket holder also, have been for many years and am as big a homer as there can be. And a Horns fan...hence, posting on this board.

We should meet in Jack Daniels sometime and discuss this over a drink.

You are correct about Nash in 2005-2006. Of course, when he was a Mav, he was averaging 13, 16, 20, 13 ppg in the playoffs, and he was often considered a defensive liability. The Mavs cleary gave up on Nash too early because he did not breakdown as was Cuban's concern.

Kidd is in the limelight, but my stats were to prove a point that we was great when he was in his late 20's. In the 2002 playoffs (2001-2002 season), he led his team in points, assists, and rebounds per game. Every category on a team with Kenyon Martin, Kerry Kittles, Richard Jefferson (albeit a rookie), Keith Van Horn, and Lucious Harris. Those aren't HOFers, but they're not scrubs and Kidd led that team in all three categories over 20 playoff games. That Nets team also improved 26 games from the previous year and made the finals. The only difference was Kidd and rookie Richard Jefferson that averaged 7ppg in the playoffs. Kidd absolutely carried that team.

I am a Mavs fan, and the Kidd trade(s) are confusing and frustrating, and I'm not convinced I wouldn't rather have Devin Harris right now. However, Jason Kidd has been an elite point guard in his career. He's not now, at 37, in the ridicullous talent-laden NBA Western Conference.

always fun being a Mavs fan, esp. since Cuban arrived.

Any comparison of Kidd and Harris has to begin with Kidd conceding the scoring title. He's losing that by 7 points. But, he's better in every other category. More assists, rebounds, steals. Higher shooting percentage, and much higher 3-pt shooting (42-26%). But one of the knocks on Harris is is wreckless play which leads to injuries.

Kidd, at age almost-37, has played 15 more games than Harris this year and averages more minutes per game. In fact Kidd has been unbelievably durable. The last 4 years he's played 80, 80, 80 and 81 games. The dude is there.

5 years from now after Kidd's finally gone and Harris has had more time, then the two careers can be compared.

Kidd does tend to make guys better on offense, but as a Mavs fan I have to agree that he is as big a defensive liability as Nash was. He makes some heads up plays and gets steals, but in one on one situations he is atrocious.

I used to get really mad when Charles Barkley would hate on the Dirk-Nash Mavs for not playing any defense, but it turns out he was 100% right. I never realized how terrible Nash was as a defender until he was gone, but with him on the floor it might as well be 4 on 5. The same is true for Kidd.

I LOVE the way the Mavs look right now, but that Kidd trade was one of the worst trades EVER (two first round picks???) and we sold Devin Harris down the river without realizing Avery was the issue on offense, not Devin.

I like Kidd, and he is a great offensive facilitator, but you guys are fooling yourselves if your don't think he gets ABUSED on the defensive end.

I was in attendance last night at the AAC for the game against the Celtics

anybody else watch last night game?

anybody still think Jason Kidd is a clear upgrade over Rajon Rondo???

Rondo won the game for the Celtics in the 4th quarter by repeatedly getting into the paint to score layups, and playing lockdown perimeter defense and completely shutting down Jason Kidd in the 4th quarter.

That is what we need, and players like Rondo are what help you win championships.

What still chaps me is that Devin Harris and Rondo have very similar skill sets....and I think Harris is a better player.

For all you Kidd fans, i will completley agree that he is an awesome passer and can run an offense really well, but do you not see teh game last night and not see exactly what Im talking about.

Kidd couldnt keep Rondo out of the paint in the 4th quarter.

Rondo can create his own shot on the offensive end and on the defensive end can play fantastic defense.

That is what the Mavericks need to really put them over the hump.

Mav kick Nuggets *** tonight. Dirk with his 2nd career triple double. Nuggets led 2-0 but that was their only lead. Mavs definitely had advantage - Nugs 5th game of 5 road games - played last night at Orlando - playing without their coach and Kenyon Martin.

Nevertheless Mavs needed to show them their new look and they did...though Shawn Marion was a beast with 21 pts...Butler and Heywood each had 10 pts and 7 boards and Heywood dominated with 4 blocks. Once again the Mavs D stifled the Nugs as Mello was only 3-16 and Billups 3-14. Salty. Good prognosis if they hold up.

Ugly win versus the Grizz last night. Down 13pts with under 4:00 to play, they go on a 13-0 run to send it to overtime.

Interestingly enough, it was a great one-on-one defensive effort by Turnstile Kidd that allowed the Mavs to get a shot in OT. He totally forced Mayo into an airball as time ended in regulation.

Dirk scores 19 in the 4th quarter and OT to lead the charge. Back-to-back tonight against Orlando. Real tough task, but it's at the AAC, at least.

Go Mavs!

Caron Butler....cant really say Im that impressed with him so far.

He's a really average player.

At least Josh busted his *** on the defensive side of the ball, but we need more out of Caron if this team is going to make a deep run

I'm not sure what the problem is with Butler. He has really disappeared in some games. He looks like a deer in the headlights...like he's never been on a good team before, maybe? His defense is above average and he certainly has the ability to take it strong to the hole. He just needs to provide more production.

I swear in the Grizz game when he missed those two ft's it seemed Carlisle jerked him and he played little after that.

I would take any age Kidd over any other point guard mentioned on this post. He can do more than just be a point guard.

When you mention Defense, I will give you Rondo and maybe the glove, otherwise the point is mute.

Nash, anybody else notice that he looks like a frog? His eyes don't work together they work independently(sp)?

Just got back from the game. That sucked, but Kidd was not the problem tonight. The shine is off the duo of Butler and Haywood a bit.

{quote]If you cant already tell, Im not a very big Jason Kidd fan. Ive had no complaints with him this year and if he continues to average 15 and 10 and hit that wide open jumper then the Mavs are a salty team.If he goes back to being an 8 and 8 player we will probably get bounced in the 2nd round by the nuggets

In a way I feel sorry for Kidd. He keeps tasting ashes against the Spurs in the playoffs. Remember the talk about the Spurs getting Kidd and giving up Parker. Thank goodness that didn't happen.
