Mavs/Lakers

Meh... The lakers aren't a bunch of thugs. Odom's def not a thug. But Bynum IS building a history, and if he's not careful his rep will follow him via stern officiating throughout his career. (For the record, he goes after big guys too...shaq as a rook comes to mind)

Artest...is Artest. I think he's been trying to keep his cool and be good since he got to LA, but every now and then he looses it.

If the Lakers were "a bunch of thugs" they wouldn't have taken the time to apologize to and check on Berea after the game.

I dont have a problem with the Lamar Odom/Dirk hard foul.

It was a dirty but it wasnt that big of a deal. Lamar was just pissed that Dirk had clowned his free throws.

I like Lamar Odom and think he's generally a pretty good guy.

Bynum is a punk because he's the biggest guy cheap shotting the smallest guy on the court.

I realize Artest is crazy....but does anyone think he would have hit DeShawn Stevenson or Tyson Chandler in the face?

I agree w/you, hornpharmd, that people typically overreact on this sort of thing. Suspend him for 10 games and that seems reasonable. I still wonder what folks would've done had Barea cracked his skull. Would people call for a longer suspension? I mean, Bynum just 'innocently' gave him a jab to the ribs, right? Does it matter how serious his injuries end up being? That's the vibe you're giving off.

When a guy is barrelling down the lane and a defender just gives him an intentional shove in midair, he's taking a big risk of injuring the guy and he knows it. There is no way of knowing how far the guy will fly when he's already got so much of his own speed and momentum, and there's a good chance that his body will rotate such that he either suffers a head/neck injury, or else lands on a limb awkwardly that he's trying to use to break his fall.

Agree w/2 previous posts 100%.

The issue w/Bynum's act is the context under which the act was committed. The game was over. They'd lost. This wasn't meant to 'send a message.' It wasn't a close series where the outcome hung in the balance. In a tight series, sometimes it's appropriate to commit a hard foul in order to 'rally the troops' or gain an edge, possibly. This was reckless disregard for the safety of another player, bourne out of nothing more than plain immaturity and poor sportsmanship.

That's why I laugh at the people trying to compare this to the 80's style playoff ball when hard fouls were commonplace. That's not even an apt analogy, in my opinion. Those fouls might've been cheap or dirty, but they served a legit purpose in the context of the series. This was abject stupidity and deserves to be treated w/appropriate punishment.

Unfortunately only 5. His comments after the game about "no remorse" means he's definitely an *******, it was definitely a deliberate act and could have definitely seriously injured JJB.

But, who knows. He may be serving his suspension with another club. And if they want to forward me his 5-game paycheck, I"m fine with that.

Hook'em!!!

Five games for the foul & $25k for taking the jersey off - $702,272 total.

That means he'll probably be broke about six weeks sooner after he stops playing.
