Mavs chances against Spurs

I was going to title this thread, "Can the Mavs beat the Spurs" and obviously they CAN, but what are those chances? All things considered (Ailing Spurs; Mavs are actually hot right now; team familiarity) I would put their chances as high as 50-50.....If they can hold pace early in the series and get a split in San Antonio I think it goes 7.....thoughts?

Normally I'd say 80-20 Spurs, but with Manu out, this series will go 6-7 and it's totally up in the air. I'd still give a slight edge to the Spurs because of coaching, home court and better point guard play. I still think the Mavs were better with Harris as Kidd just can't stay in front of Parker.

Okay. This is all boring.

60/40

Go Mavs!

As a resident of the DFW area, I will go 60/40 San Antonio. They have a history of winning in the playoffs that the Mavs are still trying to get.

Good thing about this series is that I actually care about the NBA playoffs again. Last year you knew the Mavs had no chance against NO. This year, it'll be a fun series to watch no matter who wins. Great matchup for the NBA.

So far so good.....I thought the Mavs were dead in the water there in the first half, but they charged back. Should be a good finish.

They said during the broadcast game 1 winners win series 80% of the time. Now that's very misleading as favorites are at home. It would be more interesting to know the % of series won when the game 1 winner is a road team.

But I'd say Dallas winning game 1 puts them in the 60/40 range. It's only 1 game, but it puts a lot of pressure on the Spurs. They can't drop another home game.

Spurs are getting older and not healthy, you have to like the Mavs chances against the Spurs. Spurs need to improve during the offseason period.

The X-factor in this series appears to be the Mavs bench/role players. Barea, Bass and Wright form a much better trio than folks realize. If Dirk, Terry and Kidd play their part, the Mavs should win.

True, but dirk didn't even hold his own tonight with the foul trouble and they found a way to win...I like the mavs now.....you can't just give up games like that on your home floor and expect to win.

Parker and Duncan will have to score near 30 points a game together in order for them to have a chance to consistently beat any team.

It was a weirdly called game. Dirk probably gets 2 offense fouls in a month. He didn't make that much contact in either of the 2 called yesterday. Then Duncan gets throw to the ground by Damp and no call. Damp was very physical with Duncan the entire second half. There just wasn't any consistency at all. If I were a player, I'd have no idea what to expect in game 2.

Game 1 winners won 16 of 17 series last year.
I don't have a breakdown of how many were visitors, but I still like those odds.

67/33 Mavs.

The bench was so good, Dirk/Jet/J-Kidd didn't have to carry the load. This is a good thing.

Anyone thinking an NBA game is over because of play in the 1st half hasn't watched very many NBA games. Just like...winning the first game is only one game. There is a long row to hoe still for the Mavs.

Spurs Bench will have to be better and they will.

Mavs just had a little more bounce in their step in Game 1. I expect the Spurs to control game 2....they can't go down 0-2

Read a quote from Parker - something to the effect that they had lost Game 1 now 4 times since 2003 - but apparently they've rebounded the first 3 times. Expect Pop to make adjustments. One game does not make a series.

It is definately far from over....Spurs know how to win in the playoffs, but I just like the Mavs in this one. They seem to have that spunk and fire from their ENTIRE cast and not just a couple. And I think Game 1 proved how much better Dallas' supporting cast is.

Shooting 40% and getting outrebounded by 16 will get do you in just about every time. Not even close in game 2.

Parker looked like the best PG in the league last night.

Spurs will now have to win 2 in Dallas to keep it from getting to 7. Gut says Spurs take game 4 and this one ends up a thriller in a big game 7. Sat. is a must game. Course the way the games have gone, it's boring to watch more then 5 minutes at a time. Long summer until Sept.
