March Madness in Vegas ...

Just got home, looking to go back for the Tourney. The Rio is already sending me offers for free rooms any weekend in March.

Questions for the board are:

#1 - Rio was providing free drinks in the Sportsbook, should I assume that they'll continue during March Madness? If I call the hotel and ask do you think I'd get a straight answer?

#2 - What time would we have to arrive in order to get a seat in most books? 6 am or so?

#3 - Since it's a huge weekend, do they jack up all the table minimums? I had no problem finding $10 Craps tables last weekend.

Thanks for any answers or info.

1. Tough to say.

2. Very early if you want to actually sit in the middle of the sportsbook. If you are willing to accept a table in or around the sportsbook (nearest bar) then maybe not as early. In this case, I can almost guarantee that you will have to pay for drinks. However, I find this scenario better for a group because it lends to better game watching (especially if girls or wives are involved). In other words, a round table at a bar lends to better social environment than a seat at a desk in a sportsbook (but maybe that's what you want).

3. This is a given. While you may find some $10 tables, they will be few and far between. Also, know that for every girl in LV during MM, there are about 50 dudes. This does not help the craps options as most guys tend roll the dice.

I've always had a great time during MM in LV. It would be the only sporting weekend I would select for a trip. Obviously, the first weekend is the best and the atmosphere is really electric. Have fun.

Thanks for the info ... in addition, anybody have any tips to get cheap flights to Vegas?

I've used kayak.com, anything better out there?

From what I hear, the Bellagio is the only sports book that serves free drinks now.

duff man is incorrect. we got free drinks at the hilton and ceasar's sports books about 2 weeks ago, or whenever we ran in to y'all there, barton.

they give you drink coupons at the betting counter if you just ask.

* edit: the hilton doesn't require coupons at all. it is my favorite sports book by far. most seating and they handle their tv coordination very well.

I know these answers because dad is going out there (to the Rio actually) and we talked about it just last night.

1.) You will be served free drinks at the sportsbook in the Rio as long as you have money in the individual seats' poker games that sit right in front of your face.

2.) I was told they were going to get down to the floor by 7 a.m.

3.) I was told that that the prices would be similar and not jacked up to a higher rate.

Hopefully that helps.

They give you drink coupons at the Wynn betting counter if you just ask, but they are only good to use with the sportsbook floor waitress.

Most will give you free drink coupons per $X you bet. MGM has been $200=1 drink for several years now.

That said, if free drinks are important, head over to the Hilton.

I have some extra Southwest vouchers if you need a flight (check the blackout dates on Southwest.com). PM me.

$275.
