Mrs. HHD gave me a Citizen Ecodrive a few years ago for Christmas. I have not had a single problem with it. It keeps perfect time, and it never needs a battery.

On top of their discounted prices, they have 1/2 off from Microsoft Bing for all watches up to $5,000. According to the Bing website, they pay you back after the return period and the money goes to paypal, bank account, or check.

I've got a Kenneth Cole. It's just stainless steel with a great "old man's" 1950's look.
7 years, not a problem.

What I want is the Omega Speedmaster Apollo 11 ( 40th anniversary) watch. I just can't pay that.

I'm sure I'm of your father's generation, but even if I weren't, I'd suggest a basic, steel Rolex Datejust. No diamonds on the watch face, no "two-tone" (gold inner links and bezel), no faux-diver shtick as with the Submariner-- just a simple, elegant, rock-solid timekeeper that you can pass on to a son or grandson.

LostinMizzou nailed it. You can't go wrong with a Rolex. Rolex is timeless; a Datejust should set you back about $3500 (new) but a good time piece really is an investment and should last generations. The Explorer 1, circa late 90's (black face - no dial) has a great look as well.

Also, can someone explain the TAG/Douchery association? I think that is a reckless assessment of the character and quality of that time peice. The University of Texas thought this brand worthy of thier licensing. Also, endorsed by Tiger Woods. Last I checked, he's no douche.

TAG Heuer is another timeless brand, well crafted, very durable, universally stylish and moderately priced. A TAG Heuer will last forever and not break your bank.

WTF do you want a "watch" for, anyway? Is this your idea, or Mrs. Horse's? If you REALLY want a watch, go for a "pocket" watch, and go for a "winder" rather than a )(*$#$# electronic. You should be able to find a nice one in the $500-$1000 range, gold chain and all.

Your mileage may vary, but I find the pocket watch to be ultra ultra cool. I suspect that you will still see envious looks even from douchewatch wearers: I went to a party at the San Diego Yacht Club with a client back in the 70's, and one of the highlights of the preliminary festivities was the "President Throw" where the assembled rich douchebags competed to see how far they could throw their Rolexes, in the concrete parking lot. After all the riotous fun was over (with most of not all of the watches either disembowelled or at least hors do combat), one of these dbag morons loudly asked "Anybody got the time? Hahahaha!" and I'd have to say the admiring glances in my direction far outnumbered the scowls as I pulled out my old Hamilton pocket watch and announced the hour...

long, if that story is true, then I'm gonna puke.

that is assholery the likes of which I've never seen.

what douchebags.

Another vote for Breitling here. I've had a vintage one since graduation, and I get complements all the time.

Whatever you do, keep it subtle. Nothing screams douche more than a blinged-out watch, no matter what the model. If you are going to wear something along those lines, you sure as hell better have the story to back it up.
