Malcolm Kelly trashes OU coaches

Want some cheese with that whine!!

He makes a very good point. What if he did play and then made it worse. He wouldnt be makeing any money at all this year, and would be rehabing all year and might not even go in round 1 next year.
A tear is not that difficult to diagnose, it can be done via MRI withing 48 hrs max.

How badly is the blOu pro day conducted. MK is not the only one to complain about it. The CB (Smith, i think) was according to some a low 1st rounder, high 2nd. Now he might drop out of the 2nd. That would be a huge loss of $. Yeah millions are millions but just to drop from the 1st WR taken to the 2nd might cost him over 5 mill. That is a lot of $$$.

Its sad and wrong how .1 sec in the 40 can cause you to drop but it does. thats why nfl scouts suck, b/c they care so much about 40 times. He is the same player but scouts rather look at other factors. Regardless, blOu might have cost this guy to drop and he might not be the only one. That has to look bad to future recruits. i am sure the coaches will cover this up and make it look like its not a big deal but to drop for example 5-10 spots in the draft is a big deal. Recruits need to look at this just a bit.

Okay so he had a different surface but it was an indoor practice facility with artificial turf.....would that surface drastically change your 40 time? I don't get it. If you run a 4.68 on artificial turf regardless of what you trained on what does that mean you run on real grass?

I think what we are seeing here is much more than a dispute over a 40 time it is a sign of this kids character. If he is going to have a bad 40 time and then decide in front of cameras to go off like this and then to bring up his injury status for the bowl game.....doesn't sound like a team player or a guy who is owning up to his own choices to me.

Ya know what I'm saying'...

It's not about his "football" speed, i.e. running routes in a game. Everyone has said that he's pretty good at that aspect.

It's about trimming off that tenth of a second for the scouts and boosting his scouting report. Astroturf is far easier to run on than field turf if you're running for your life.

I'd be pretty pissed too if I was misdiagnosed.

The NFL dictates where you will be running on an on campus Pro Day, not the staff of said University.
OU's Pro Day is one of the better ran ones in the country & after having more people historically drafted than any other University in the Big XII, we pretty much have things figured out.
This was the same surface & place where Lofton knocked half a second off his timing @ the combine.
Neither of these 2 guys ran at any time this entire NFL process & waited for some reason until the last possible second & both of them ran slow.
MK weighed in at 227 yesterday. That's a good 10 lbs heavier than he was just a few months ago.
MK has no one to blame but himself. MK also said ll the way up to the Fiesta Bowl that he felt fine & 100%.
The kid is just mad because he blew in the 40 & vented.
I bet we never sign another top 20 class again.

As specifically as the scouts operate, one would think that the comparisons between where he ran and where others have run would be taken into account. Surely they would know the difference.

I'm not going to critisize him as he is correct about his draft status affecting his family; however, would his whining and excuse-making not be considered a detriment to some scouts?

Well, when the scouts tell you that they want you to run on this track because that's what everyone else runs it on & is the exact same surface as what the combine has & they don't want to have to add time to your 40 because you ran on astro-turf then I don't see what that has to do w/ OU.

We've had several scouts rave about OU's Pro Day. Most recent was Joe Green a couple of weeks ago.

Pro Football Hall of Famer and Pittsburgh Steelers scout "Mean" Joe Greene was impressed by Tuesday's event, which OU director of sports enhancement Jerry Schmidt coordinates. Greene said there are horror stories circulating among scouts who attended Texas A&M's recent pro day.

"What we did today in three hours, it would have taken them eight hours to do. That's bad," Greene said. "This is run very well."

Anquan Boldin ran a 4.67, I believe, and ended up drafted in the second round. Yes, that's a difference of millions of dollars from being taken in the first half of the first round.

It's also a point that 40-times alone don't dictate how good you'll be as a wideout. That said, the writing is clearly on the wall that Kelly, given his size, would be a possesion receiver first and a guy that you might try to lob jump balls to downfield on occasion.

I'm sure he's frustrated but, the NFL decides where you run & they have veto power over the process of MK's wishes.
OU has moved it's Pro Day to that facility since last year. It shouldn't have came as a suprise that it was going to be held there regardless of where MK wanted to run.
The place where MK wanted to run is on one of our astro-turf facility. The scouts have to add time when ran on tracks like that.
OU had both the Mosier and Everest center ready but the scouts walked in both & decided to keep it where they have had it the past 2 years because the surface is almost identical as the one at the combine.
MK wanted to run it at the Mosier Center & it was prepared but the scouts said no.
He should have been prepared to run wherever they wanted him to mentally or equipment wise.

If that is indeed the case, then blOu coaches should have known this and trained him on the appropriate surface, the same one at the combine.

since73,
all it proves is that you are faster than aggies, not necessarily better fun. MK also said that they didnt want to see him do alot and the scouts said "thats all they need to see."

MK also said he weighed in more at the combine than the 227 he was at. He shouldnt be that high anyway. 220 tops.

So, you're saying H.E. that OU hasn't had a Pro Day in the facility that has AstroTurf in over 2 years but they made a deal w/ MK that they were going to do this one just for him even though no one has ran a time there for a scout in over 2 years?
MK might have made the request that he wanted to run at that facility & OU had it ready but the NFL decides where they want you to run, not MK or OU.
Looks to me like if there was a chance I wouldn't be able to run on a surface no one has tested at in over 2 years & a higher prospect like AD didn't get to run on a surface I'm sure he would have loved to give everyone a buzz about in a ridiculous time then MK maybe should have trained on both surfaces.
