Malcolm Brown

Yes he has been offered according to Rivals. I don't think he is atteneding junior day but I think he had a visit on campus last summer.

as i posted int he other thread, there are more than 15 offers. everyone seems to have gotten an offer today except hughes, which sucks for the kid b/c he is a huge horn lean.

I'm a little worried that we didn't offer Hughes...I'm not convinced we're gonna hit on either of our two targeted DE candidates, and Hughes is UT-good. I'm also curious if UT has been able to turn Brown away from the dark side...I've heard for over a year that he likes okie.

Coolhorn, interestingly, i have heard he likes us. Should be a tense time waiting on him. I really like brown.

hornpharmed:

i hear you but i can envision a situation where we take two--if they're the right two. In fact, I'll bet that's what happens.

talented de's are always in demand and a fair # grow out of the position and spin down to DTs.

Rasco is a take for sure. Reed and Hughes should be UT bound eventually. It's just too good of talent to pass up, even with the incredible depth we already have there. Supposedly Hughes can be spun to a DT so there's that...

Malcolm is a stud but does anyone have a concern with how big he is? By that I mean if he is 6-1 220 right now what will he be during his freshman year when Mad Dog gets a hold oh him? If he is already that big isn't is plausible that he could be 240 or higher once he is in college? If he is that size then won't he end up on defense as a linebacker, etc?

He's no linebacker. To move him there would be a mistake.

If you've ever seen him play, the way he changes directions and jukes out defenders is just sick. If he adds in the power (I've never seen him against a defender with ability to stop him) and he'll be unstoppable. Should be Texas' #1 target this recruiting season without a doubt.

I don't doubt his ability now, I am just curious if you can really expect a guy to stay at RB and be effective at 245 pounds +. Maybe if we land him we can keep him at a good weight for running back.

Man, I have to stay off this thread or I'll gain weight. Brown has gained weight with every post. Now he's added 35 pounds to his 210 pound current weight.

Seriously, was Earl Campbell too heavy? He was 5'10" when he was here. Brown is a running back and perhaps the #1 recruit in the country. Linebacker? Are you kidding me?

Why does he necessarily gain weight just because he comes here? Players gain weight because they NEED to. They don't just come here and balloon for no reason. The RBs you are talking about like Cody Johnson and Chris Whaley were 250 and 240 when they came in. Mal is 210 (listed, granted that could be different now) and if you see his film he's extremely lean (a la AD).

I agree with you, there are some players you need to be worried about (such as Johnson, Whaley, and Shead).

Malcolm is definitely not one of those players.

I don't have a problem with someone weighing 220. That was clear in my previous post. My fear is that he becomes a lot bigger. The reason? He might not be done growing...1) He is a jr in high school and 2) guys typically add weight once they come into the conditioning program at Texas.

I would love to have the guy, my only point was that they would have to keep his weight down.

Shead is not one of those players either. He is 6'2" 205 and a LOT more lean than Brown at this point. If anything he needs to be 220 before he is done.

Just now, Wed, 17-Feb, on Austin's ESPN station... 104.9 FM... Geoff Ketchum has labeled Brown the second best running back in the state since 1995, that he has seen. Only Peterson is better.

Geoff said Brown is Benson, 2-ticks better/faster. He also said that Brown at age 17 is better than Peterson was at age 17, and Geoff has seen all the top backs in person in high school, some since their 10th grade year.

Geoff's list was this...
"AD" Peterson
Malcolm Brown
Ced Benson
Ben Gay (? name) who went to Baylor
Jamal Charles

runner up in 6th, considered almost a tie for 5th, the chap running over at Collie Station...

Geoff also said this probably shakes down as a battle between Texas and OU. So... do you want to face this guy every year in Dallas, and watch him beat up on other Big 12 opponents... or do you want him burning it up with an Orange Jersey?

I have to agree whole heartedly with Ketchum on his assessment. The first thing I thought after I saw Malcolm Brown against Lake Travis (299 yards) is Cedric Benson II.

Brown is not considering ou OVER us. In fact, he is seen regularly wearing UT garb. Keep the faith, brother!
