Major Applewhite's job limbo reveals administrative clown show at Houston
From the link:
"Holgorsen is a good coach, as he’s shown at West Virginia. Here’s to hoping at his introductory presser, Khator [Renu Khator, UH's president] dusts off her notes from the night she hired Applewhite and doubles down on the most baffling line from a collegiate administrator in the past few years. “Winning is defined at University of Houston as 10-2,” according to the Houston Chronicle. “We’ll fire coaches at 8-4.”
That chestnut was greeted with mockery among her peers. And it should make Holgorsen sweat, as six of his eight seasons at WVU were 8-4 or below."

If prez. Renu Khator (wasn't she a character in an early TV episode of Star Trek?) holds to her chest pumping, she will doom UH to ever latching on to a coach growing his legacy. She will be firing the likes of Knute Rockne, Bear Bryant, and Nick Saban, who all had sub .666 (8-4) years at their schools, ND, UK, Bama, where they then won NCs. Not only that, both Rockne and Bryant won NCs, then slumped below 8-4, then won more NCs:
Rockne 1924 10-0: NC,
1928 5-4 (fired?, uh, no),
1929 9-0: NC, 1930 10-0: NC
Bryant 1961 11–0: NC, 1964 10–1: NC, 1965: 9–1–1 NC,
1969 6–5, 1970 6–5–1 (fired?, no),
1973 11–1: NC, 1978 11–1: NC, 1979 12–0: NC
Nick Saban 2002 LSU 8–5 (below 8-4), then 2003 LSU 13–1 NC; later he started Bama 2007 at 7-6 (officially 2-6 due to NCAA tossing out games due to predecessor violations)
