Mack's new recruiting policy

right, and i agree with you that poaching recruits is part of the climate.

which is why i think the policy, while good on paper and really is the way things SHOULD work, is unrealistic. any player that commits to UT is still going to be recruited by other schools and still feel the temptation of visiting bama, usc etc. having a hard line stance on them therefore no longer being committed will just lead to an easier recruiting pitch for those other schools.

i think there has to be some nuances to his decision making. some players are easier to replace than others, in which case a hard line stance can absolutely be used. others, like many of the athletes texas recruits, arent so easy to replace.

this might be an unpopular statement...but mack's new "ultimatum" policy may have worked back when texas was the clear #1 option for all top tier texas athletes...when texas scholly offers were coveted because no other school could compare. that's no longer the case anymore.

The kid is in complete control - if he wants more free weekend entertainment DON'T commit. A very simple decision.

Haven't we addressed this in another thread Joe??? He isn't threatening consequences for other coaches who continue to pursue the kid. He is only threatening consequences to the recruit if he is swayed by said coach to visit. Since he isn't condemning the other coaches for doing it, of course he is not saying that he won't continue to be competitive for any recruit that isn't really commited.
Apples & Oranges....

haha, i post enough on here that i get confused about what i'm arguing on which thread, so we very well may have covered this.

BTW Joe, add me to the posters that appreciate your input. Getting an aggie perspective from someone that actually talks to us Instead of just harrassing us is an enjoyable rarity.

Prop Joe: "demetrius knox is currently committed to the horns. i think he'll end up at least visiting alabama. does mack pull his offer then?"

If Knox visits somewhere else, then he is decommitting. Texas isn't pulling his offer. He's pulling his own offer. The rules have been explained to him.

Personally I don't understand what the big deal is. When one of your commits continues to talk and meet with recruiters from other schools, goes on official visits to other schools, yada yada yada, then that commit in actuality is no longer fully committed to you. You are a fool if you believe otherwise. If recruiting sites and schools want to live in fairytale land and pretend it's otherwise, they're free to do that. Mack is an adult who is just acknowledging reality here.

My point exactly

Nice new policy in year 16.

Let's have a new policy that our players should lift weights too.

**** all this. When Chip Kelly fails in the NFL, we'll just pay him $8 million to head over to the promised land.
