I-A champs vs I-AA champs. This completes their OOC schedule along with Tulane, Houston and Southern Miss.

"LSU will open the 2008 football season Aug. 30 in Tiger Stadium against Appalachian State, three-time defending champ of the Football Championship Series (formerly known as Division I-AA)."

How long until we hear "LSU can't play a tough non-conference schedule because their conference schedule is so difficult."

I can't believe people are bashing LSU (or any SEC team's) schedule. Look at Arky's schedule for example. Besides their cream puffs they have:

Texas
Alabama
Florida
Auburn
Kentucky
Ole Miss
South Carolina
Mississippi State
LSU

This schedule is brutal. We've NEVER had a schedule this tough.

Pardon me, if I'm not impressed with Arkansas' schedule.

Texas 2008 non-cupcake schedule

Arkansas 8-5
Colorado 6-7
Oklahoma 11-3
Missouri 12-2
Oklahoma State 7-6
Texas Tech 9-4
Baylor 3-9
Kansas 12-1
A&M 7-6

The App. St./Michigan upset created much sports anarchy; an App. St. upset of the defending 1-A champs would bring untold levels of sports anarchy (ESPN would probably go on suicide watch).

LSU tried to get Texas and Texas A&M first in a home and home deal and barring that asked for a Dallas, Houston or Shreveport match up.
Both turned LSU down.

LSU next turned to Texas Tech and TCU and was turned down.

Next LSU asked Rutgers to fill the open date, as they had an open date and was turned down.

ESPN the whole time was pushing behind the scene to get App. St. in a match up to match the two Championship teams.

LSU was going to meet App. St. in 2009, after being turned down by the above teams, LSU finally agreed to the ESPN deal.

ESPN is paying for the game.

ESPN knows LSU lost most of its defense and 2 key players on offense and App. St. has most of its offense and defense back.

ESPN wants the upset to make the Big 10 look better, as between the last 2 BCS Championships games and App. St. beating Michigan the Big 10 took it on the nose.

BTW when is ABC and ESPN going to learn the BIG 10 has been pertty bad for nearly 30+ years now.

How many Rose Bowl wins since 1970?

12

4 Michigan wins
3 Ohio St. wins
3 Wisconsin wins
1 Penn St win
1 Michigan St. win

Thats 24 Pac 10 wins vs 12 for the Big 12.

Tigger,

These game locations are often more complicated than a simple 'hey you wanna play?"

And your closing is weird. I guess Texas has more Cotton Bowl wins than USC..... pardon me while I do not do cartwheels.

Yeah they tried to schedule tech apparently, but Tech was only going to play at home in 08, due to losing a home game last month. LSU also only wanted to play at home (because for soem reason they need 8 home games next year) so that is why it did not work out. IF LSU was willing to play on the road in 08, the game was likely to happen, but from the sounds of it, they would not play away from home. And even if Tech did go there in 08, there is no reason LSU would not buy out the return trip....
