I think I've said this before but from what I've seen of Case we don't want him. I've watched him play a little bit and he is no where near his brother. I don't think he would ever be a good qb for us. If we can't get anyone else then I would take him just as a solid backup for Gilbert after a couple of years. But I don't think Texas should offer him until they see how the better qbs in the class feel about Texas. I think it's a waste of a scholarship right now. With that said, however, you have to trust Mack Brown and his staff.
I watched Case throw 3 interceptions and lose a fumble in their game against my high school last year. Maybe he will be better his sr. year...but I wasn't impressed with him last year.
This is going to be a 2 QB class. We need to build up some depth to go with Gilbert. Besides give the others a chance to come in and play. You never know what is going to happen.
Just my opinion. But Case earned this ship. He didn't get it becasuse Colt is his older brother. After all we didn't offer Chance.
I would think Case would be much better off going to a school like SMU, North Texas, TCU, RIce, or Houston. I don't think he will ever be a starter for Texas, especially with Gilbert right ahead of him.
In Mack I Trust. The guy has been right more times than he's been wrong when it comes to recruiting. If they saw something there with Case they can work with, then that's good enough for me. Of course Gilbert is the QB of the future -- but if Case is even half as good as Colt, I will sleep much better at night without worrying about what happens if Gilbert gets injured.
Perhaps Case is being recruited specifically to be Gilbert's backup, a position blue-chip QBs would avoid. We may have a tough time recruiting marquis QBs for the next couple of years, a la the VY syndrome.
Legacy or not, I trust Mack's judgment here. Being out of state, I obviously don't have the luxury of seeing these kids play weekend and week out. If Mack feels he's worthy of a ship, that's all that matters to me. Look at the job Colt has done, I can't remember anyone going ape **** when he committed and look where we are now. If he has half the heart and ability that Colt has, he's still going to be a hell of recruit.
Yea, let's decide that a Jr. in High School can never grow into a starter. Geez. Hopefully GD saw enough in him to make the offer. But let's welcome Case aboard. And here's to a great Sr. season.
There have been other instances where our staff has passed on "legacies". I think the coaches only offer if the kid is worth a scholarship. I'm glad Case is on board!
I am willing to bet that none of the people who are claiming that 'Case is teh suck' had the correct foresight about Colt's potential when Colt committed.
It was widely assumed that Colt would backup up Perriloux when he was recruited. Colt got a huge break when Perriloser bailed. He got another huge break by having a year on Snead. Fortunately, he capitalized on his breaks and has had a stellar career at UT.
Case's numbers as a high schol Junior weren't even remotely comparable to Colt's. He is much thinner than Colt was at the same age. He would not be our first offer at QB this year if he weren't Colt's brother and if we hadn't just signed Gilbert. That adds up to backup material in my book. Not saying that's a bad strategy, but it is what it is.
This may be similar to the Riley Dodge commit. The staff could be thinking of moving him to a different position. Of course, if his dad gets a college offer, Case might back out.
seriously, none of you young bucks were around when we got 'super bill' bradley. if there was ever a 'can't miss' qb, he was it. ultimately, we were right pleased that he didn't scare off james street, and bill bradley went on to stardom as a safety.
point is, you just can't tell for sure who's going to pan out and who isn't. like others here are saying, we had no idea when we lost out on perrilloux that we had somebody better already on hand. you just can't tell until they snap on the headgear.
if pops says case is cut from the same cloth as colt, that's good enough for me. c'mon, kid.
