If you are like me, you are missing UT baseball and not a fan of MLB. I am getting my fix by watching the Little League World Series on ESPN. Needville (TX) is 3-0 and just beat CA last night 3-1. Plus they are wearing orange. Check it out.

Just going off memory didn't Ronnie Miksch (sp) come from needville?

Yes, he is a Bluejay. I got to know him when he coached my son's Pop Warner team at Town & Country Youth Association. This was about 1995.

Why the heck is Needville continually playing teams with 1 less game than them? They were 2-0 when they played 1-0 CA and now they are 3-0 and playing 2-0 Seattle. This would seem to be a disadvantage to Needville given the pitching restrictions.

Needville outlasts Washington today 1-0 in 9 innings. Washington had men on 2nd and 3rd with no outs in the bottom of the 9th and Needville got out of it. The play by the shortstop to end the game was *spectacular*. Look for it tomorrow on ESPN's top 10 plays if you did not see it today, and if you did not, you missed a heckuva ballgame.

Truth! Just, WOW some great defense by both teams here.

A couple years ago they added two extra regions to make 10 regions instead of 8. Because of this there are only 4 teams who play in the first round while 6 teams don't play until the second round. I'm pretty sure it's a random draw situation to see who goes into what bracket.

I also don't like that this team made it to the US championship game undefeated, but if they lose once to the team coming from the losers bracket they're out. Seems really unfair to have them play the extra game AND only have to lose once while every other team would have to lose twice to be out.

Yep, pretty stupid. Reminds me of the CWS was 1 game final. Texas had no losses and Wichita State had one and Scott Bryant had to come in and pitch. One more day our pitcher rotation woulda been back to the top of the order.

The play by the Needville SS to end the game was #1 on ESPN's Top 10 Plays this morning, as well it should be.

That same kid made a diving catch behind 3rd base for an out on pretty much a lost ball against California. I'm guessing he doesn't normally play in little league and he will definitely be playing at the next level somewhere.

That is one of the most impressive SS game saving plays ever. Not just because of the athleticism but because of the stakes. He misses the ball, they lose. A bad throw to 1st, they lose. He doesn't throw or it's late to 1st, game's tied. Only way to make it bigger would be the final game of the tournament.

I'm sure we can dig up a better pure athletic SS play on youtube from the pros or college but would it includes that level of pressure?

Wichita State anybody?

Wichita State anybody?

That was in 1989 and I'm still mad about it.

Now, here, owing to Needville also being saddled with an extra game, they have the same 4-1 record as CA and yet CA is the US champ. I call BS on that.

And Needville beat them earlier in the tournament so they are 1-1 against the champ too.
