Learning Golf

If you want to get good, and learn how to score quickly do this.

Take your putter, three golf balls, ALL your wedges, (sand, lob, pitching, gap wedge) a 9 iron, and either a 7 or 6 iron. Go find a big practice green with some undulataions to it, and some flat spots. What you are going to do is this, start with your wedges and pick out a hole, something you'll have to either carry the ball to or land it soft, pitch the three balls at this hole, then go putt the ball in, if you don't get up and down with all the balls then pitch till you do get up and down with them all, Do this at two other hole locations and then change clubs. Continue this until you have gotten up and down with all the clubs you brought. After you do that, then start getting creative, like trying to get up and down with a 7 iron when sand wedge would be more likely what you would play. What this will do is to develope your "feel" around the greens.

Okay so after you have done this the next thing you will do is get three balls your putter and a few coins. Walk on the practice green and get about a putter length away from the hole. Put a coin down. Make 30 in a row from this spot, then move back one putter length. put a coin down and make 20 from this spot. then move one putter length back put a coin down and make 15 in a row from that spot.

Next pick out a flat hole. get a putter no more than one putter length away. put a coin down. What you will do is this. Putt the first ball so that is just barely drips in the hole, concentrate on making a smooth stroke. The ball MUST DRIP in the hole. After you have Driped your first putt in, then putt the next one so that it DROPS right in the center of the cup, concentrate on a smooth stroke and the ball falling right where the flag would be inserted. Next putt, you are going to RAMM the ball off the back of the cup. Do this cycle of DRIP, DROP, RAMM 10 times in a row.

After that it's time to start your feel for the lagg putts. Get about 40-60 feet away from a hole. Putt three balls and try to get them inside a putters length from the hole. Concentrate on your pre stroke routine. Take three practice strokes looking at the hole and try to see the ball rolling towards it. Feel like your right hand (if you are right handed) is rolling the ball towards the hole on these practice strokes. Practice about 30 of these putts.

Rules for practicing putting. 1) practice six feet and less
2) practice lagg putts
3) do DRIP,DROP,RAMM

After that go out and get a big garbage can, one of those plastic ones, and something that you can lean it on at about a 45% angle. Go find a big field, set it up and pace off 10 yards from it. Drop your shag bag and hit wedges till you get one to go into the garbage can. Then back up another 10 yards, make one and back up until you are at 80 yards. (once you become really good, you can go back as far as you like,) (think hitting a 5 iron from 190 into it).

When you hit balls break your bucket up into 10 ball segments. start with your wedges and move up. ALWAYS have a target. When you are hitting your driver or fariway metal, imagine a fairway with rough and trees practice on hitting the fairway. Try hitting the fairway with a draw and then a fade.

But remember you want most of your practice to be with clubs of 120 yards and in. Basically 9 irons and less. These are your scoring clubs. What you want to get to is when you get your ball in good position off the tee and get one of these clubs in your hands you are thinking BIRIDE or EAGLE.

Practice the short game stuff like I said and I promise you after 6 months you will become a hell of a lot better, and probably beat most of the people you play with.

ENJOY

Awesome practice. Thanks. I did it for a bit.

Well. Friend was going away to Aruba for a trip. So, we decided to hit the links before he left. Same course, blackhawk. It was in better condition Saturday than on July 4th. We had a great time. Anyways, I took 20 strokes off from the previous try. Like I said. I sucked big time so it was not too hard.

Driving. That is the second worst part of my game. I hit the irons decent enough. They lack exact accuracy but at least they can travel a good distance. But, I still dribble a few drives or get very little air. It is funny b/c I have been hitting the low irons at the golf range to learn how to hit. Well, I ended up neglecting my driver. Work in progress.

Thanks for your help.

I hit a tree.

I may be a little crazy but I am thinking about playing with colored balls. I can not follow the white balls for the life of me...
