Learn about FAU

Greetings, Longhornians.

My name is Ted Hutton and I cover Florida Atlantic for the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

Since there seems to be an information deficit about the Owls, I want to invite you to MY BLOG. (http://weblogs.sun-sentinel.com/sports/college/fau/blog/)

I post several times a day now that practice has started, and since coach Howard Schnellenberger is old school and keeps every practice session and scrimmage open to all fans and media, there is a lot that can be learned.

Looking forward to my first trip to Austin in a couple weeks.

Thanks for the info. FAU is a good squad and a team Texas must take seriously. If Texas tries to sleepwalk through this game, they could very easily get beat. Fortunately, I think Muschamp, Applewhite, and Co. will have the Horns ready to go.

Thanks for the info, Ted and Canadian.
I see you guys are having a big push to bring a large number of your fans to Austin - but your school has returned a whole bunch of tickets. Nonetheless, I hope those of you who make the trip down here have a good time - minus the scoreboard.

I'm coming out with a descent group and we've been looking forward to this game for months. I think it's a good chance to see a bunch of points put up by both teams.

Has the 6pm game time been confirmed yet? Coming from S. Florida, our boys are used to the heat, but I'd rather not sit in the stands thru and afternoon of Texas heat.

i saw the FAU cheerleaders in downtown Dallas last week (must have been here for a cheerleader camp). now i know they have some talent.

I'm not sure about the game time but I think you'll handle the heat just fine. I went to the UCF game last year and the heat was pretty rough - but since you are from Florida and not Wisconsin, you will survive the Texas heat.

Speaking of UCF, I guarantee you Longhorn fans have 100 times more class than those clowns, and we won't call you a "***" every 30 seconds.

The guy came over here, didn't talk trash, said he thinks both teams will score points and you guys start trash talking. Please be a fan of another school. Show some class and welcome the guy, give him some places to go in Austin!!!

By the way, we are not Longharians or whatever that is, you can call us either TEXAS or Longhorns. Thanks for your understanding.

"THe campus doesn't look anything like a Russian tractor factory, it looks quite nice. "

I've been by there a lot to see clients, it is bland.

Yeah, there isn't a lot of variation in the building designs on campus, just a lot of concrete and glass. But the school's only been open since 1964.

And no worries Major, I know what to expect when I venture into enemy territory. I might be an FAU alum but I have thicker skin than that.

I looked at some of their buildings online and 1) didn't see anything more than 10 years old and 2) most of the designs looked pretty competent and considered.

Ted - thanks for the link and the info on your team. As least you don't work for the Orlando Sentinel, and your coach is still talking to you! (And yes, I know that feud was allegedly settled...)

I know you usually travel the day before the game, but you really need to talk your editors into letting you come to Austin early, for a "mood" piece or two. The pre-game parties usually start Wed and Thursday in Austin! I'm sure there are some fans on this board that will be more than happy to direct you to the best places to eat, what bands can't be missed, and even where you might find adult entertainment that would rival Ft. Lauderdale's finest.

And you came to the right place for team information when you found this board. The posters here will give you a much more honest appraisal of the Horns, compared to anything you can find from the so-called "scribes" at the Statesman.

Welcome, and as an earlier poster said, enjoy your trip - except for the final score.

i've never seen FAU's campus, but as long as jester, the engineering buildings/RLM, and the communications "boxcar" building stand, we probably shouldn't make fun of communist utilitarian architecture.

thanks for the info! if you're west of colorado, stay on the north side of fourth street...not that there's anything wrong with the south side of fourth street...
