Lance v/s La Zona Rosa

I love how many lance armstrong experts there are on this thread, claiming to have personal knowledge that he would never say a certain thing, has never taken steroids, or is doing all he can to clean a swimming hole.

this thread is hi-larious.

Lance Armstrong was an ******* in this situation. Lance Armstrong has been an ******* in other situations. Lance Armstrong just might be an *******.

That being said, I'm glad I'm not famous. Because then everyone would find out I'm an *******. Or at least I can be an ******* from time to time.

The hate whenever Lance is mentioned on message boards is really bizarre. By most accounts, the guy's an *******. So what? Many professional athletes ARE ********, that comes naturally with a competitive drive high enough to take you that far. Why doesn't everyone pile on Michael Jordan whenever he's mentioned?

To get to the level of success that superathletes or anybody in any profession do, there is a certain intensity. The term ******* often comes along with it for some reason. It is like one seldom exists without the other. There is such focus, such drive. To some extent, a selfishness in the eyes of others. But it is no different than an overdriven stock broker or lawyer or anything for that matter.

As some mention, Jordan, Tiger and others get into a zone.

I have two Jordan stories. One happened to a friend and the other I saw in an interview.

1. Jordan had a basketball camp for top HS players. You got a stipend every day to eat in the cafeteria to make it even for everybody. There was nobody with more or less money. He gave the guys a chance to play him one on one to say you have, to see where you stood. BUT, at a price. You had to wager up all of your stipend to eat that day. Lose, you may not eat. Win, double it.

The point was that nothing comes for free. You must earn what you get. People fought hard and worked hard their entire lives to get to the NBA to play Jordan. Some HS kid does not just get to walk in and do so.

One side of this is he is an *******. But he gave them a chance. When my friend told me about this I asked him if he played MJ. He did not. He said he did not need to go without eating to know MJ could crush him and it was not worth it in his eyes.

2. In a game where the Bulls were behind to the Pacers, Reggie Miller came up and said something to Jordan that fired him up leading the Bulls to a dramatic comeback with Jordan in a "zone". The classic Jordan.

After the game Miller went to him to say something supportive and Jordan said something along the lines of, "Don't ever ******* talk to me again", and walked off. Reggie was crushed.

The rest of the season he kept his distance. After the season at some banquet or something Reggie walked into the event. Jordan stands up and calls him over, hugs him and asks him to sit with him, something like that. Reggie says something like, "So you have forgiven me? You will talk to me"? Jordan was perplexed and inquired what he meant.

Reggie told him and Jordan, for the life of him, did not remember saying that. He wondered why Reggie was so distant. He had no recollection.

I mention these stories because in both he can become an *** or just highly driven or competitive. It is in the eyes of the beholder. Most of these types of people (athletes or not) have a vice of some sort that is usually not beneficial or healthy. Be it alcohol or something, they have a crutch. Just like their success it is exaggerated often and pronounced.

But the whole body of work is amazing. This is the case with Lance. It is much better having Lance on the planet than not. If I had to endure the ******** that he has dealt with I would be an *** too. ****, I am *** sometimes just like the rest of you can be as is.

No story here, folks.

who's the bigger ahole? the purported ahole or the aholes who hate the ahole because of random news clippings, rumors and heresay.

he's famous. i heard he gave a guy a dirty look. HE MUST BE AN AHOLE!

if it makes your life seem better then knock yourself out. hate lance. yea. he's a dick. he's a 15 minute guy. yea, he cheated.

me, i'm noble. i haven't done anything to contribute millions to cancer research or given cancer victims a sense of hope, but dammit, i'm cool on this message board and i feel better by showing my hate for lance. i have no proof that he cheated but i'll convince myself that he did because dammit if i can't win the tour 7 times without cheating, then neither can he.

and he purposely tried to sneak beer out a bar. oh the humanity! i bet he hates jesus and puppies too!

i hate lance. i'm cool.

I am typing this slowly for you.

Because some will say he was being an ***, some won't. Because some say Lance is an ***, some say the bouncer is. There are always two stories to tell if not more. Jordan is a competitor to the level of Armstrong and it seems that almost all of the people at this level have a certain intensity that some consider being asses.

i just don't think that they are contextually the same. one involves competition, the other involves a drunk guy being an *** at a bar. that's all i'm sayin'. no need to take it personally, like all the other lance hero-worshipers on this thread.

I hear what you're saying Loop, but I think the difference is when highly competitive, highly intense athletes act like ******** on the court/field/course/track (like your Jordan example), it's one thing -- that's to be expected.

But when they act like that in everyday life, those same attributes are just a weak excuse for acting like a jerk. I don't think we should give them a pass on it just because they're "intense".

And I'm not a Lance basher at all, btw.

I don't think anyone, Lance included, is saying he didn't act like a jerk at La Zona Rosa.

I think a lot of people are saying that acting like a jerk is a pretty common human foible, and that it must suck to have it hashed out in public every time it happens.

Is there anyone out there that hasn't had a run-in with one of those overmacho wanting to get in your face for no reason doormen at some point? These people are the equivalent of impound wrecker drivers. They want you to get mad at them so they can get in fights, they love it.
Afterwards you feel stupid for doing anything to provoke them, as Lance Armstrong did-he apologized, no further problem. But it doesn't reflect that badly on the guy-could happen to any one of us.

It would suck to be a celebrity. I'd be known as an ******* worldwide. Good thing I didn't beat cancer and win 7 Tour De France's.

Anybody know about this bouncer that's worked at the same bar for 4 1/2 years? He's a celebrity now so let's dish the dirt on him. Give him his 15 minutes.
