Assuming Ben's man on the boat is the character we thought we'd never see again how could it possibly be Michael? Perrinaue's name has appeared in the opening credits in every episode this season. Why would they do that if he was never to be seen again. I'd be million times more surprised to not see him again.
Walt is a possibility because of the change in his apperance but that strikes me as a little weak. The reason for not seeing the character should be due to something that happend on the show.
The first thought that entered my mind was the character would never be seen again because they're presumed to be dead. I went to lostpedia and checked out this character's bio and developed the following theory.
Lostpedia's bio of Clancy Brown's character Joe Inman says he was accidentaly killed by Desmond when he slammed his head against the rocks. He then had to rush back to the hatch and push the button. I don't recall whether he went back to check on Joe or not. If he did and the body was no longer there then he could have presumed the tide carried him out to sea. Perhaps someone in Ben's group found him in coma and they nursed him back to heath. If he went back and buried the body, I honestly don't remember, then obviously I'm wrong.
The Fisher Stevens character who dies told them that one or both of them had a friend on the boat. Is it just a coincedence the first two character's to leave the island both knew him? Joe has the "white man's fro" so that could explain the hair.
The main problem with the theory is Locke never knew him and wouldn't need to sit down to hear the news. Ben would have to give him additional news that would shock him and that could be revealed in future episodes.
The producers and writers are certainly smart enough to know everyone's going to be looking at the opening credits to try and identify who it is. They could do something "Special Guest star?". At any rate after all of this I'm most likely wrong but I believe it plausible enough to take a shot.
i completely agree. there has been plenty of buzz for a few weeks now that michael is the ben's guy on the boat. it seems almost silly to have tried to build the suspense with the "you need to sit down for this" and the "you'll never believe" promo. its going to be a huge letdown. i guess there's a chance they'll throw us a curveball, but i seriously doubt it.
