"The Other Woman"
Thu March 6 9/8c

Juliet receives an unwelcome visit from someone from her past and is given orders to track down Charlotte and Faraday in order to stop them from completing their mission -- by any means necessary. Meanwhile, Ben offers Locke an enticing deal.

I'm thinking we will get a better idea of what the freighties have up their sleeve

Lost at its best ...

Locke: "I want you to tell me who is your man on the boat"
Ben: "Alright, but you might want to sit down ..."

Commercial damnit!

They better reveal tonight! Michael is everyone's thought, but I want to find out for sure!

first filler episode of the season ... kind of a disappointment. But, we did learn a few things ...

Ben released a gas from that station which killed off Dharma people. We knew he did something like that, but this confirmed it a bit.

There was a reference to the kids that were taken from the losties. Alex and Emma were their names? That correct? Anyway, they just reference that they were wanting to know where their mom was, and Ben suggests they will stop asking soon enough.

Juliette was having an affair with Goodwin. Ben essentially killed him by sending him to the tail knowing he would get murdered. Wonder if he had a beef with Ian also, and this allowed him to get killed too?

Ben is in love with Juliette.

Michael is Ben's guy on the boat. If you watch the preview for next week, they show a shot of Sayed's face as Ben's contact walked into the room, and the hair sillouette was that of Michael.

Penny's daddy is behind the boat.

Did I miss anything? None of the above were major reveals. Filler ep in my opinion and thus, kinda disappointed. Oh well, hopefully next week will be awesome again.

The was the line, "you look just like her" from the therapist as an explanation of Ben's infatuation with Juliette. I guess we don't know who "her" is yet.

How did Ben conjure up that therapist to tell Juliette about Daniel and Charlotte? Same place that Walt is hanging out at? Filler episode.

I think there's a chance Ben is detached from time himself and has knowledge of the future.

That explains how he knows a lot of the stuff he know, i.e. Goodwin being killed.

I just thought of something from this episode that might piece together a little of the Desmond/Penny/Widemore story. We know for sure now that the boat belongs to Mr. Widemore and from the last episode, his interest in the island began in the past episode when he bought the diary from the Black Rock crew at the auction. It isn't clear yet what he wants to do with it, but he does know the island is special and he wants to find it.

There also was a question after last week as to why Penny suddenly began looking for Desmond again three years ago (as per their phone conversation) when she didn't care during the years prior to that. Maybe this would explain it:

From the diary, Widemore gets an idea of where the island is located but knows the dangers and difficulties of getting there. He knows how Desmond feels for Penny, so he tells Des that if he wants Penny back with his full approval, he needs to go on the journey and find the island.

Widemore creates the Race Around the World as a cover and Desmond trains for his mission of finding the mysterious island in order to show his worth and get Penny back. Des takes with him the picture of them together to help as motivation, finds the island, crashes, and goes through all we see, while in the meantime, Widemore tells Penny what Desmond was willing to do for her, thus three years ago she begins to frantically try to find Des.

Through both himself and using his daughter, Widemore knows they have enough money and resources to eventually find the island.

Obviously that's just a guess, but it's funny how a little fact that this show gives out can make you think back to all of the stories to piece together your own. Not many things on TV can do this.

Question from the preview clip for next week:

It shows a woman jumping off the freighter to commit suicide by drowning(she is wrapped in heavy chains). I could not make out the character via freezeframe. The preview then shows desmond running in attempt to stop here from jumping. She did not appear to look like Penny....Any thoughts? Guesses?

penny has the two portuguese guys in antarctica.

to add to the widmore = dharma/hanso thing, why would he need to buy hanso's black rock diary at auction?

and for those who thought this was a filler episode, it was light years better than that nikki/paulo/paralysis spiders episode. or that one about jack's tattoos. god those sucked.

There seem to be some geography issues relating to the various factoids thrown out.

The plane was going Sidney to LA which means it would be traversing the Pacific. The freighter dudes also said their last port of call was Fiji, located in the South Pacific and reasonably under that flight path. And I believe Ruseau mentioned something about the Pacific as well. So this thread of facts is consistent and logical.

However, the presumedly fake wrecked plane was found in a deep trench off the Maldives (I think) which is in the middle of the Indian Ocean off India. Thats pretty far for a plane to be off course without anyone noticing. In fact, a plane from Sidney would probably have to fly over the Australian continent to get over there, as opposed to east and north over the Pacific. This is no small distance -- probably 5,000 nautical miles between Fiji and the Maldives, or more. Furthermore, if I am remembering correctly, the Black Rock captain's log just won by Widmore was found on or near Madagascar which is even further west across the Indian Ocean off Africa.

As careful as they are about everything else, it is hard to reconcile the writers'/producers' lack of awareness of the distances and/or geography involved here (unless of course they are all women and just cant read maps).

One more minor point was the auctioneer 's claim that the Black Rock was a trading ship, whereas it was clearly portrayed as a slave ship on the island. Small thing but they seem to do evrything else with a purpose.

Don't forget the backstory where the new red-headed freighter chick found the polar bear skeleton with the "Dharma" tags in what I assumed to be Africa or the Middle East due to the desert like conditions.

Joe Fan, I am so glad you brought up the plane in the Indian Ocean. I have been thinking about that for weeks now. I think they said it was found off the coast of Sri Lanka? Even if they were 1,000 miles off course, which I believe they were, there is no way in hell they would be in that area for a crash. Something there doesn't make sense.

Regarding the Black Rock, terrible as it may be, would a slave ship still be considered a trade ship? Were the slaves considered a commodity?

Regarding where the polar bear was found, I believe it was in Tunisia, a North African republic.

The fake crash was off the coast of Bali, which makes it a little more plausible, but still way out of the way. Maybe they put it there because they didn't want it to be anywhere near the real island since it may attract scavengers. But, we also don't really know where the real island is.

If they said Bali and not the Maldives then I make a qualified appology. I recalled "a deep trench off the Maldives" but admit I didnt go look it up to verify. Sorry.

I say qualified because while Bali is east of the Maldives, it is still in the Indian Ocean while Fiji is in the Pacific. And way out there for that matter. A flight from SYdney to Fiji takes about 4.5 hours, and thats heading away from Indo not towards it. In terms of actual distance from Bali to Fiji, it is ~4283 miles (or 3722 nautical miles). Thus, any flight from SYdney to LA would be way off course.

As to the suggestion that the fake plane's location was a plant to throw off its true location, I thouight that at first too, until I considered the geography involved -- it seems too great a discrepancy given radar, communications b/w plane and air controllers and even eyewitnesses. Given the care with which these people have woven this story, I suspect/expect/hope that it is plot driven. This series is like nothing we have ever seen before with the literary and scientific references, fake web sites and fake commercials. I just cant see these folks trying to slip Bali and Fiji past us since they sort of sound alike (not to mention every surfer in the world (like me) knows the difference)(the Maldives have excellent waves too).

Further support that it is story driven, I contend, can be found in the mention of pirates, the captains log and Madagascar. I would also add Rousseau to this list as there is a French presence in the South Pacific including scientists/researchers.

As to the polar bear in North Africa, perhaps it suggests Darhma had more than one site? Or, perhaps when combined with all the plane location anomalies, it suggests the possibility that the island's time element might also involves a distance factor?

I am just guessing. Would be interested in reading better theories.

If this series has taught me nothing, it is that if something doesn't make sense right now, there is a good chance that there is a reason for it. So for now I'm going to assume that the geography was intentional.
