KSU vs. Texas Game 1

I think or thought this was the best chance to win a series in conference, but if Knebel is unavailable again for the series that puts a big hole in my plans.

Unless the starters can go very deep or even a complete game against one of the best hitting teams in the nation.

Hopefully Duke, Urban, Hollingsworth, and others can step up and do the job. I would think Duke and or Urban will assume the closer role now.

This just keeps getting worse it seems for Texas Baseball.

French gets the stare and the lead off man taps back to the mound and it's out one.

A slow grounder to second is out two.

French hits the third hitter for a two out base runner.

A ground ball to second ends the frame.

Texas comes to bat with no score.

KSU starts a freshman who has only started one game this season with bad stats. Be nice to jump on him.

Hall leads off and bunts and the third baseman fields and throws high and over the first baseman's head.
Hall is credited with a hit and moves to second on the error.

Weis hits second tonight with yet another line up change.
Weis K's swinging and that hurts another unproductive out as Hall remains at second.

Payton grounds to second for the second out on a ball if we could have moved Hall over to third before would have scored him.

Hinojosa batting clean up tonight now needs a clutch hit, but he grounds out to third to end the threat and the inning.

No score after an inning of play

French out in the second for his second inning of work and the lead off hitter goes the other way with a line drive for a single to left to put a man on.

A walk puts two on with no outs.

A sac bunt attempt is so good down the third base line that he beats it out to now load the bases with no outs.

Here comes Skip for a conference and things could get out of hand early if we can't shut this down with minimum damage.

A high chopper back to French comes home for the force 1-2 for out one.

Infield goes to double play depth, but a liner to Weis in left goes for a SF to give KSU a 1-0 lead and put runners on the corners with two down.

A walk reloads the bases.

A K looking gets French and Texas out of the jam.

KSU leads 1-0 as we go to the bottom of the second.

Felts leads off the Texas second grounds out to third on the first pitch for out one.

B. Marlow grounds out to short for out two.

Silver grounds out to short also to end the inning and send Texas down in order.

KSU leads 1-0 after two.

French's third inning starts out with a single to right.

A chopper back to French acts as a sacrafice as his only play is to first for out one as the runner moves to second.

A ground ball to second moves the runner to third on out two.

A ground ball to second ends the inning.

Bottom of three now with KSU leading 1-0.

Montalbano the catcher leads off the third and pops up to third and the third baseman juggles and makes the catch for out one in shall left.

Carter at third tonight K's looking for out two.

Back to the top of the order with Hall with the only hit for Texas on the bunt and is also the only Texas base runner so far.

Hall grounds out to deep short on a strong throw by the KSU shortstop as Texas goes in order again.

KSU leads after three 1-0.

French starts the fourth with ground out to third for out one.

A slow roller to short that Hinojosa charges and makes the strong throw for out two.

A ball into the gap in left center goes for a triple as the relay throw to third is wide with two away.

A ground ball to Hinojosa and a strong throw by C.J. nips the batter at first and saves a run on the third out.

To the bottom of four and KSU leads 1-0

Weis leads off the fourth and grounds out on the first pitch to short.

Payton grounds out to first for two away.

Hinojosa pops up to first to end the inning and send Texas down in order yet again.

That's twelve straight retired for the freshman righty Lavhoris.

KSU leads 1-0 after four.

French in the fifth gets another ground out to third for out one.

A walk on a full count is French's first to put another runner on for KSU.

A slow ground to third moves the runner up to scoring position as out two is recorded.

A hard ground ball Silver at first and he goes down to his knees and makes the stop and flips 3-1 to French to end the inning.

French gets out of another inning, but KSU leads 1-0 halfway through the game.

Felts at DH tonight leads off the fifth for Texas with a K looking for out one.

B. Marlow lines a single to center and the center fielder lets it get by him for an error as Marlow moves to second.

Silver flies out to center as Marlow moves to center.

Montalbano now after Marlow had stopped the consecutive out string by Texas with a clutch single grounded though on the left side ties the score at 1.

Carter singles to left and the KSU pitcher who has never gone this far before may be reaching his limit.

KSU pitching coach is out, but leaves the right in. You have to be able to hit a pitcher like this if you expect to win, a freshman in his second ever start and it comes at Disch-Faulk.

Hall with a chance to give Texas the lead K's swinging to end the inning.

Texas breaks through and ties the game at 1 after five complete.

French still in there starts the sixth with a ground ball to third for out one.

A long fly ball to the gap in right center is over Hall and goes for a one out triple.

The infield comes in as you might expect to try and cut off a lead run.

A slow chopper goes to third and Carter's throw gets the batter barely and the runner has to hold at third with two away.

A ground ball to first and French is out of another jam as the inning ends scoreless.

Game tied at 1-1 going to the bottom of six.

Weis leads off the sixth for Texas and lines a single to left on a low pitch.

Here comes the KSU coach and the night is over for the KSU right hander Lavhoris.

You can expect a lefty coming in to face Payton and here comes exactly that in a big lefty named Moore.

Payton lays down the sac bunt and it moves Weis to second.

Hinojosa grounds out to short as Weis moves to third for the second out.

Felts needing a clutch two out hit like Motalbano deliverd last inning and he does just that with a single up the middle to give Texas a 2-1 lead.

Felts steals second on a great jump on first movement running.

B. Marlow grounds out to third to end the inning.

After six now with Texas taking a 2-1 lead.

French out for the seventh and a ground ball to short is another ground ball out.

French's sinker is working pretty well tonight and another ground ball to short is out two.

A liner to center is a single and keeps the KSU streak alive of at least one runner every inning.

A 2-0 count to the next hitter brings Skip to the hill as the pitch count mounts.

French stays in and walks the batter on four pitches to put two on and a runner in scoring position.

French escapes yet another jam with a K looking to retire the side.

Texas leads 2-1 to the stretch.

So will we extend French as much as possible without Knebel, will be interesting to see. I see Duke warming up in the pen.

Silver leads off the seventh against a new right KSU pitcher a righty named Mathis.

He grounds one up the middle that the shortstop ranges over and nips Silver at first for out one.

Montalbano lines out sharply to left on a ball right at the fielder for out two.

Carter walks on a full count pitch to put a runner on and a steal attempt would seem in order.

Hall your lead off man is up and even if Carter is thrown out you have the top of the order up in the eighth.

Carter does run and a one hop throw gets him at second to retire the side.

To the eighth with Texas leading 2-1

French is out again to try and work his magic of working out of innings or maybe just hopefully an easy inning.

A long fly ball to the gap in left center is a lead off double and here we go again.

Here comes Skip and that is all for French and here comes Duke in to pitch.

Another great outing for a Texas starter as French worked himself out of several jams, but now another jam is present and no Knebel leaves matters to Duke to get out of.

There are lots of lefties in the line up for KSU tonight and unless some are switch hitters this is one reason to bring in Duke as is he has been effective.

Duke faces one of those lefties to start out K's him looking for a big out one as KSU eschews the sac bunt.

The next hitter a righty after a long battle walks to put two on, on a full count pitch.

KSU pinch hits a righty and here comes Skip and that's all for Duke as Skip wants a right hander and it looks like Ty Marlow coming in and it is.

It's getting sticky now as I guess they are saving Urban for the closer role without Knebel.

Now KSU counters and pinch hits a lefty replacing the right handed pinch hitter.

Malow with a big K swinging for out two.

Can Texas pitching continue the magic of getting out of a jam every inning nearly and the answer is no.

The pinch hitter lines one to to right that goes to the wall past Payton that scores both runners and gives KSU a 3-2 lead.

Marlow K's the next man swining to end the inning this time not scoreless

KSU regains the lead 3-2 to the bottom of the eighth.

Would Knebel made a difference? I guess we will never know.

I guess the same old story keeps repeating? We have a one run lead, our starter gives up a couple in the 6th or 7th innings, and we lose by one run after that. Hope the story changes today. Go Horns.

Hall leads off the Texas eighth and K's looking for out one.

Weis steps in the box and he K's swinging against Mathis who came in last inning.

Payton lies a single up the middle and will he try to get into scoring position with a steal?

Hinojosa K's swinging and the side is retired on K's.

To the ninth and KSU leads 3-2.

Ty Marlow continues on in the ninth and a fly ball to shallow center is called by Hinojosa and he makes the catach for out one.

A ground ball to third is out two.

A ground ball to first ends the inning.

Three out to prevent yet another frustrating loss.

The news just got worse as Tech just beat OSU in Lubbock 5-2 so three outs to prevent tightening our grip on last place. Another school with their own broadcast on Fox SW and I can see that of course, but not UT.

Felts leads off against Mathis and K's swinging for out one.

I thought KSU would bring in their closer Witt, but I guess they think he is not needed.

They may be right as B. Marlow grounds out to second for out two.

Silver is the last hope and walks on a full count pitch to reach.

Stell in to pinch run for Silver.

Montalbano now trying to at least keep it going, but he K's lookng to end the game.

KSU wins 3-2 and Texas sinks ever deeper into last place with Tech's win.

This was the kind of game I thought we might win say 2-1 and we had a chance to do that. French pitched well, but you just knew that with KSU getting chance after chance they would cash in sooner or later and they did.

That's why I suggested starting Peters and with him and Knebel you might get that 2-1 or even 1-0 win. Of course Knebel was suspended again and I knew that Peters wouldn't start, but it was just a suggestion to shake things up and finally win a game like this one.

This Knebel thing is getting out of hand, what is going on that you can be suspended twice in about a month and remain on the team?

Things are in a very bad state for Texas Baseball and just seem to be getting worse.

NB thanks for the updates. This is getting ridiculous. I don't know why I put myself through this misery. I keep telling myself to just read about the game in the morning, and then I end up following along. It's like beating your head against the wall. It's going to feel so good when it stops. I guess not having LHN is good in times like these. The way the Horns are playing, I'm afraid my TV wouldn't survive.

NB, you have my greatest respect for sticking with this team this season. Its like signing up every week to just get kicked in the nuts over and over and over again and you have bravely come back each weekend.
