Kobe suspended???

I agree that Kobe's actions were obvious, but they were also clever and, for that reason, I expect the league will take no action.

Kobe kneed and elbowed Battier in a way that complemented the "flow" of grabbing the ball and rising to his feet. He merely exaggerated a couple of movements to achieve the knee to the face and elbow to the back of the head.

Is Bryant a douche and a *****? Absolutely. Would I like to see Battier (or any pro-baller, for that matter) take his li'l punk-*** out behind a shed and give him the beating of his life? I'd PAY for the privilege.

But I'd be shocked if the league lifted a finger over this. He's a star and his actions were subtle enough to invoke claims of "plausible deniability."

Stern will make damn sure he gets absolutely no time out of the playoffs because he knows Kobe v. LeBron in the finals would generate ratings. All about the powerful, almighty $$$$.

Man, I thought I was the only one that saw that. they aren't going to suspend him (but they should) mainly because the media isn't all over this. This incident should have been front and center on all the PTI/Rome shows, but its not, so NBA will sweep it under the rug. If the rockets were smart though, they'd nag the league to review it.

No, the Rockets just need to watch it a few hundred times. They need to make sure that smirking **** bag does not advance.

you either love kobe or you love to hate kobe. that was ridiculous and he should get fined, but has a few have already mentioned, without the attention of the media, it will never happen....they lost either way...

There is absolutely no way that Stern lets the Rockets go up 2-0. Look for Yao to get fouls called early and for Kobe to be at the free throw line all night long.

And I saw that last night as it happened and went ape. Dude will get away with rape on and off the court.

Listen, on the court Kobe may be quite different than off the court.
Bird, Jordan, Isaiah, all those guys were a-holes on the court. Nobody knows him off the court.
Most guys that don't like him are fans of other teams.
If you are a Lakers fan like I am, you can dig his style of play.

Did Jordan and Bird ever whine, possibly forcing an all-star center to get traded, then talk down about his own teammates, then demand a trade, then all the sudden act like they didn't want a trade as soon as their team brings in an all star center?

I won't go into the Colorado incident because I'm sure those other legends of the game were exactly angels in that department either.

that being said, he's a top 5 player in the world. He's never been considered a dirty player, and he doesn't have to resort to kneeing and elbowing to be respected.

It is a disgrace to mention **** bird Bryant and Michael Jordan in the same sentence unless the sentence is about how they are totally unlike one another.

Jordan was intense, overly so sometimes. But Jordan has more class, respect and quality of being a human being in a hang nail than Kobe Bryant will ever muster in his entire lifetime.

LOL, that was nothing. He just was getting up and gave Battier a little push. Anybody that thinks anything significant of that does not enjoy watching playoff basketball.

Are we trying to set a record in this thread on how many times we can proclaim that "anyone who thinks _______ is ______."

I get it, you think one way. It just seems odd when people proclaim that anyone who thinks otherwise is misinformed/doesn't like basketball. Personally, I prefer my basketball to not involve elbows to the head when players are on the ground. It generally hasn't hindered my enjoyment of playoff basketball.

I am not a Lakers fan, but I like Kobe's GAME....he is one of the best in the world.....off the court I can care less. Respect the game, he's one of the best players we will see for a while. BTW...who in the NBA isn't dirty during the playoffs, it's for the championship. Ohh...and the Western Conference will win the title.....my money is on the winner of the Rockets/Lakers.

Yeah, pretty much everybody in the NBA has intentionally elbowed someone in the face during a playoff game....

Kobe is a great player. There can't possibly be any disagreement about that.

But the NBA is a business, and as a business, Houston advancing isn't such a bad thing.

There are a billion people watching Yao Ming's every move.

Luis Scola was the third leading scorer in the Olympics and has a huge following in his native Argentina and in Europe where he played before coming to the Rockets.

I could definitely see Houston over LA as a purely business decision.

(I do not mean to imply that the NBA would be involved in any funny business to alter the outcome of a game, of course.)

IRC, I like the way you think, unfortunately as a lifetime Rockets fan, I have the NBA's anti-Houston mentality drilled way too hard into me. Hell in 1994 I was the first caller to an afternoon drive time show to complain about the media bias against the Rockets in the Knicks series. The hosts all scoffed at me and then proceeded to get bombarded with 4 hours of calls of people saying I was 100% correct. The NBA hates the Rockets, period.

Bad news for Rockets fans everywhere, Joey Crawford is reffing tonight. We are so screwed.

With Joey Crawford reffing tonight, we will be lucky to stay within 20. Yao will get two early fouls and Kobe will get 20+ FT's. Mark it down.

Anyone who says Kobe isn't atleast a little dirty doesn't watch basketball. Anyone remember the elbows he likes to throw when running around a screen or shooting? He did it so much a couple years ago that the NBA HAD to suspend him.

This was definitely dirty, but I tend to agree that it is playoff basketball and he did do it coyly. My only problem is that if it had been the other way around, Battier would be sitting, period.
