Kirk Watson just got owned

Truck's Son

On Hardball, by Chris Matthews. Matthews asked him what legislative accomplishments Obama had that warranted Watson's support. He couldn't name a single one. Not one. If a state senator from Texas can't explain his support for Obama beyond, "he'll bring us change, blah blah blah..." then you gotta wonder if a lot of Obama's momentum will dry up once the general election rolls around and he's forced to run on the issues and his record.

Of note, my disdain for Matthews was strengthened when he failed to ask the same question of the HC supporter (Some Ohio politician). Not fair to Watson, in my opinion, to throw him a curveball, then throw the HC supporter a softball.

Oh well, that beating was bad enough to justify two threads.

It's generally very difficult for a junior senator who was just elected to accomplish much, given the seniority system in Congress.

Truck's Son -

I agree with you 100% that Matthews did not handle that fairly with Watson. I would imagine that the smile would have come right off the HRC supporter's face had she been asked the same question.

Somebody else had listed a legislative rundown for both Obama and HRC and, as I remember it, most of their accomplishments consisted of naming post offices and Federal buildings.

I saw that too- my man Mayor Frog got pwn3d. I actually thought the worst part of it was right before they went to commercial and Matthews said something about "vetting the guests" to make sure they had something to say. Tough night for Kirk.

I don't think either candidate will like answering that question if the accomplishment has to include only legislation that they authored or co-authored and was actually signed into law.

They will both have to go into spin mode about the issues they have worked hard on where the will of the people has been thwarted by W and the evil Republicans.

You could also hear off-camera laughter from the MSNBC studio right after Matthews made the "vetting the guests" comment. It sounded like the pundit panel on the adjacent MSNBC set were having themselves quite a chuckle at Watson's expense.

Matthews was trying to do the same thing to Bill Clintons former Campaign manager - David Wilhelm- earlier tonight as well...who happens to be supporting Obama

except Wilhelm explained to him why he was supporting Obama and why he thought Obama had the best chance to push change through...he gave specifics

Upgrayed: I hear you man. You gotta admit, though, at some point there's gonna have to be a concerted effort by the Obama campaign to rid themselves of this perception that they don't really have anything of any substance to say. Certainly having one of your backers reinforce this stereotype on NATIONAL TV by not being able to speak of a single piece of legislative history is an indication that right now they aren't doing a very good job of getting any substantive message across. All America is hearing is "change, hope, future...etc, etc." That's only gonna get him so far.

Stephanie Tubbs got such a free pass after watching that.

"she has legislative accomplishments all across the world"

Oh really?

Watson said all there was to say. Obama=Empty shirt

This issue will not go away and will only be repeated a million times between now and Nov.

Apparently it does not matter what you accomplish, it is your image and speaking ability that wins the presidency. None of this will matter to the voters, it's all style and perception, not substance.

The only way they should play that question is with something like "Barack hasn't been in politics his whole life. He's not a career politician who has sat the in Congress for the past 20 or 30 years building his own private fiefdom at the expense of every one else. Here what he does want to make happen..."

They HAVE to try and downplay the lack of experience and instead show it as a lack of longevity.
