Kill me, I'm thinking of getting a 'family' sedan

My guess is that khorn meant to say TSX, not TL. You can get a TSX (which is a re-badged European Accord which means it's much sportier & has better styling) for the mid-upper 20s.

Thought about, actually still thinking about the TSX. It comes down to whether I want to spend an extra 6-7 grand, and the answer right now is no. When I DO get around to getting a new car (May time frame), I might decide to splurge.

Here is the answer my man. It is a little smaller and a little more expensive then an accord but about 1,000 times more fun to drive. It was also a Road and Track and Car and Driver Ten Best. Another good choice is

which is also a ten best.

Neither one of those cars would qualify as comfortable & reliable transportation. Despite their 4 doors, they should be lumped with sports cars. He's got the toy, he probably doesn't need another more expensive and tempramental one.

Edit: In the personal experience with aforementioned cars (not just the STi and Evo), we have a 98 Accord. It's been pretty good, but it needs more sound insulation, better brakes, and could use more power (it's a 4, and it's gutless). Furthermore, it's on tranny #2 (replaced at 75K) and had both wheel hubs replaced as well. Pretty good little car, but not the bulletproof dynamo that some make it out to be.

My 90 Accord EX with 5 speed manual gear box has 353,000 miles on it and only in the last year started having any significant maintenance costs. Just change the oil every 3000 miles and the tires every 50K and and drive the hell out of it. If you want a little more exitement, get a G35 or a Maxima, or a Titan, but that hardly classifies as a family sedan!

PCH - I don't generally think of 50K as a good benchmark of reliability. As far as an extended period of time goes, how long do you think that turbo is going to last? 200K? Doubt it. And when it does go? Probably looking at 2K to fix it. As for the ride, the Evo and Sti have an exceptionally stiff suspension (meaning bone jarring ride around town), and the interiors reflect the entry-level econo sedans that they started as.

Don't get me wrong, they're fast as hell and probably fun to drive too, but neither qualifies as a family sedan people-mover type vehicle.

Re: Honda v Acura - Yeah I agree, that's what makes acura the quasi-luxo brand that it is, but for the LX accord we have (I know the EX has better insulation), the level of NVH is pathetic. I've driven plenty of Fords that aren't as fatiguing over a 3 hour drive.
