Kid commits without an offer

I've commited every year for the last 23 and still haven't received the call.

I'm leaning toward batshit crazy.

I mean, how do you commit to a school that's a 3-hour drive away without taking a single campus visit?

Guess he thought the junior mailer from Cal was an official offer. What a bonehead. He'll probably end up running a craps table in Reno. Sad.

If indeed that kid was the victim of some sort of practical joke, that's some serious pranking.

Seriously though, that would major-league suck.

Luckily this kid is huge otherwise he'd get some major hazing the rest of the year...it's bad enough to commit to a school that never offered, but to do it on TV and in front of the entire student body...that's classic.

Wasn't it last year that some kid committed to one school and then reported to a different school for the start of summer practice? He forgot which school he committed to.

whats more screwy is the fact that Cal had him listed in their 2009 recruiting class.

So the guy is early commiting even before the current signing period has even begun? Wow thats a serious batshit crazy prank

What a weird story. Surely there is no way his entire family was in on this. OTOH, why would someone pull a stunt like this?

I am not sure I have ever read a story quite like that.

No, no. Cal has in fact offered Kevin Hart a scholarship and we look forward to having him on the squad in the Fall.

That kid got punked. I was guessing by the rival neighboring high school with the dads calling and acting like coaches.

The real *** is his coach. How does that coach not know to run some traps or make some calls?

I want to laugh, but I cant.

Either this was the meanest practical joke since Carrie's trip to the prom or this kid is profoundly mentally ill.

My best friend is a guy named Josh Bell. White guy, about 5'9", 260 in HS, played center but had to sit out his senior year because of transferring schools. Anyways, he lived with me during our senior year, and one day he was like, "Dude, look, I keep getting these letters in the mail from all of these colleges." Sure enough, letters from nebraska, USC, Okie State, Tech, etc. Then one day I see him wearing an Okie State football shirt. I'm like, "Where did you get that shirt?" he says, "they just sent it to me in the mail. Weird huh?" I didn't even believe him at first, but whatever. So anyways, one day i'm cruising the HF recruiting board (This is in 2004) and I see "Josh Bell commits to Iowa State." as a thread title. Sure enough, some 6'4" black DE from soemwhere else in Texas was being recruited by some Big XII schools and they kept sending us his letters. This story reminded me of that.

New reports that a con man bilked money out of the kid and his family.

A huge portion of responsibility in this situation falls on the high school coach, IMO. Yes, the kid and his parents should have been better educated about their situation. But the coach has to know what's going on.

LOL I love that he said he was duped by a guy named Kevin Riley (QB at Cal)

Cop: What was the name of the man who 'recruited' you?
Kevin Hart: Uhh . . . uhh. . . Kevin Riley
