Ketchup or Catsup

This is not a thread debating the spelling, but rather the concept in general. I don't mind the stuff on my fries and as an ingredient in good BBQ, but other than that I have no use for the stuff. Am I the only one or are there other people who are grossed out and actually peeved at the way others use ketchup? I don't know why it is, but it's some primal response in me. The worst is ketchup on a hot dog. If I see that, even if it's a kid, I say something. Surely, people who put ketchup on hot dogs had mother's that didn't love them

Am I alone? And if so, or if not, where does my hatred of ketchup come from? I really can't explain it in myself, but I knot it's there. I have even gotten in fights with my wife about ketchup. Disgusting vile filth......

nothing wrong with ketchup on a hotdog.

"the only people who put ketchup on hot dogs are mental patients, and Texans."

I've had ketchup on hot dogs before. For some reason the ketchup tastes even better with relish.

That said, I prefer mustard.

I woked with a girl who poured catsup on her cheicken fried steak. It looked gross mixed in with the cream gravey.

I didn't realize putting ketchup and mustard on a hot dog was something that made people mad. How does anybody get bothered by any ingredient somebody chooses to put on a hot dog? It's not like it's a nice cut of meat. Hell, it's barely even meat at all.

I guess the only strange habit I have with ketchup is I sometimes take the tomatoes off my burger (I hate raw tomatoes) but then replace them with ketchup.

All I ask in regards to ketchup is to stop putting it in the fridge. My wife doesn't seem to agree with this.

I read somewhere that catsup is a sauce of vaguely Asian origin, and that the tomato variety is of fairly recent origin. Oyster catsup, and walnut catsup were at one time somewhat popular. It is ok on frites, and in BBQ sauces if used with chili sauce, dry mustard and some other stuff.

We bought some mushroom catsup in Williamsburg last year. It tasty on a burger. The tomato variety, I have no use for but don't mind if others do.

i use it for a base in bbq sauce, and cocktail sauce, and shrimp cocktail. i like it on hot dogs and burgers.

didnt dan quayle think it was a vegetable?

All about ketchup. On my fries, onion rings, hamburgers, chicken sandwiches and even on my fried chicken. On Chicken Fried Steak though it sounds awful.

In the past my father has been known to put ketchup on many things.

He has also been known to spoon PACE Picante sauce (medium I believe) out of the jar. (Kind of a lazy man's Mexican Gazpacho.)

I forgot there are very few BBQ places that have any tomato products or corn syrup on their sauces....

Lots of Texas places use ketchup in their BBQ sauce.

Don't know many that put it directly on, or in, the BBQ.

I'm not a big fan of ketchup on anything other than French fries, but it doesn't make me mad to see others do so.

But I've been known to put salsa and/or hot sauce on just about anything.

white bread sauce you mean. Sauce does not go on BBQ. sauce is to be sopped up by the white bread slices that are served with the BBQ.

I don't do sauce with my BBQ.
But I sure as hell put ketchup on my hot dog, and I'm pretty sure my mother loves me. I should disclose that I really don't like mustard though.

I love to sop up BBQ sauce with my white bread.

I also occasionally eat it on the BBQ. And often I eat the BBQ straight without sauce. Either way is fine.

Sometimes I open the refrigerator and pull out slices of cold delicious brisket, and eat them right out of the Ziploc. And sometimes I get a containter of BBQ sauce, open it up, and dip the cold slices of delicious brisket right into the cold sauce, all the while standing in front of the open refrigerator door all Homer Simpson-like.

And it's all good.

When Olga Korbut first toured the U.S., she fell in love with ketchup so much that she brought a case back to the Soviet Union. That's one piece of trivia that's been stuck in my f'n mind for over 30 years. Thanks for giving me the oporutnity to share that with you.
