Kerry: Not negotiating a legal agreement with Iran

Zork, the Carter comment, while said in jest, is very spot on for several reasons. The main reasons Iran is an Islamic State is that Carter forced the Shah, while sick with cancer, to receive Khomeini back from exile in France. Not only that, but Carter personally assure the Shah that he would provide military support if the need arose due to the upraising. Obviously, Cater lied.... what is new.
Of course it isn't as if the US is completely innocent.... see the overthrown of the democratically elected Mossedegh. The entire situation is a series of blunders. Obama didn't start this thing, but he sure doesn't seem to be helping much either. He has been dealt a near impossible hand though.

It is indeed a tough situation BO is foolishly ( at least I hope he is just doing it foolishly NOT maliciously) helping or appeasing Iran.
He continues to pretend Iran is really interested in cooperating and living up to its agreements with the West.
There is an Iranian TV interview in 2012 with Rouahani where he openly brags about flouting the 2003 agreement and Rouahani is now the President.Yet BO keeps saying Rouahani said Iran would never develop a nuke. Why would anyone trust him?

and BO persists in saying Khamenei issued a " fatwa" against the development of nuclear weapons even though no such fatwa exists. Why would anyone trust him?
Iran broke their last agreement with the West.Have they kept any agreement?
Between BO's continued misrepresentations of what Iran's leaders have said weighed against their actions and BO's continued insistence on keeping Congress in the dark and out of any role I would hope more than 47 Senators are concerned with what BO's real agenda is.

I don't take issue with much of what you're saying. Like I said earlier, this whole exercise is a charade for appearance purposes. However, the problem with the letter is that at best, it doesn't help matters and certainly makes the Republican Party look bad.

Mr. Deez. I would agree with some of what you said. But I don't see how it makes the GOP look bad. Or even Mr. Cotton. The letter simply states the truth. That Obama and his negotiations are completely nonbinding. Just tonight, I read that The Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khamanei has called these negotiations 'fraudulent' and reiterated his calls for death to America. So, the letter is beside the point entirely, other to remind people that Obama's work is simply futile.
That isn't to totally excuse the GOP. I don't get why no one in their party can get on a camera and simply articulate their position and use simple logic to point out how Obama is wrong in his policy and politics. I don't know if they aren't given the venue, or simply don't have someone who can do it. Mr. Cruz can do it at times. Then he turns around and pulls some childish procedural gag that is worthy of some Sophomore frat boy at Southwest Texas State. Principled leaders, who speak truth to real issues, as rare as a unicorn in Atlantis.

The letter served to keep this very dangerous issue on the front page of the news. As this President again works in contradiction to the Constitution he swore to uphold, the people he is negotiating with to allow nuclear weapons chant "death to America." Obama's reckless behavior will haunt this country for decades.

Telling a fat woman that she's fat may be true, but it's not a smart thing to say. The truth of a statement doesn't justify saying it or saying it to a certain person. What the letter said could have been communicated to the President or to the public and without controversy. Instead, it was directed to the foreign nation the US is negotiating with. That looks partisan, petty, and disloyal, and I reject the premise that the letter kept an important issue in the news. If anything, it offered a diversion from discussing the important issue, which is Iran getting a nuclear weapon and the Administration's sloppy way of handling the situation. If a liberal journalist has a choice of writing on Iran getting a nuke or a bunch of Republicans writing a letter that can be construed as disloyal, he or she is going to choose the latter option.

Of course they can get on camera and make statements, and their leadership will always have a venue. When the Senate Majority Leader, Speaker of the House, or Chairmen of the relevant committees speak, people will listen. They can control the narrative. In fact, the letter showed that they can control the narrative. They just controlled it in a bad way.

All remaining leverage went out the window when the recent narrative coming from the WH and it's spokespeople turned to, "anyone opposing our plan has a responsibility to demonstrate a better alternative, because we don't see one". Going as far to imply this is our only alternative, and we are obligated to do the best with what we got. Wtf is that?

Iran is laughing their arse off at pathetic statements like this. You can't bargain a beneficial deal when admitting to no alternatives but the outcome of the negotiation. Just over a decade ago when this all started it was the WH demanding Iran stop their nuclear pursuits or else. Look where we are now. The last 6 years have been a continual cycle of massive demand concessions.

This deal is like poorly negotiating a car price when your brother keeps warning you the salesman is a snake. Starting firm at $4,000 off, being coaxed all the way down to $100, and agreeing as long as the dealer offers at least something off the original price. All is not lost, I got $100 off that greedy dealer. Boy my bro was right, he's a tough nut to crack. Hope I don't blow a tire driving off the lot, I'll be out of pocket already.
