Chest, I am actually normally right there with you, Augie's obsession with the bunt is beyond me. But he has forgotten more baseball then I know so I guess you just have to grin and bear it. It works more often than not, I just wonder if hitting away earlier in most games wouldnt lead to less of these nailbiters late.
 
That seemed to be what Augie was setting up with Thomas and Milner. Hopefully Chance has a good inning left in the tank.

Chance is clutch. Didnt think he would have it today after all that work last night, but he comes through again.
 
This staff wins another one where the bats manage all of 4 hits. Augie ball got us two of the runs. The KU starter pitched well but you have to wonder if it was really him or the hitters just not doing what they needed to at the plate.

Nice to have Workman going tomorrow. Much like Cole he would be the ace on many staffs.

If the bats come alive this team has Omaha and a real NC shot written all over them.

Not that it matters, but Auburn beat LSwho 11-7 today. They appear to have some pitching problems at the #2-#3 starter positions. Would love to get them in the championship series again, Go Horns!!!
 
Saturday early, Augie let the hitter (Keyes) try to hit away with a runner on first and no outs.

Result: the runner didn't advance and Texas had one out.

I'd prefer to see Augie ALWAYS bunt with a man on first and no outs. It almost always gets the runner to second, and occasionally it results in men on first and second and nobody out -- with the next batter having the opportunity to bunt them over to second and third.

It's "Augie Ball" and many don't use it much, but it has worked for Augie for 40 years and for 5 national championships.

I'd say it real hard to argue with it.

Well with a batter like Keyes if i was making the call i might let him hit away as well. It's a gut and timely decsion.
