Kaneisha Horn visiting TX

Alabama transfer Kaneisha Horn is visiting TEXAS this weekend. She would come in as a junior and I think I remember reading that she wouldn't have to sit out. She already sat out a year due to injury. Horn was a McDonald's All-American and rated #5 in the country coming out of high school by Hoopgurlz, as well as, a member of the All-SEC Freshman team. After sitting sitting out the 11-12 season she came back last year and averaged 8.3 ppg and 5.4 rb while playing only 24.1 minutes a game. This would be a huge get for Aston and add more height at 6-1!

Talk about the perfect last name to play for UT...Come on down Kaneisha Horn!

did an excellent job coming back from two ACL injuries. Only question is: how does she fit in scholarshipwise? The numbers are very tight but that is assuming that everyone is coming back and that our 2014 and 2015 verbals stay committed.

Wonder if she decided to leave due the coaching change at Alabama. Doubt Kristy Curry would have wanted her to leave.

Interesting and pleasant development. Read that she had visited USC in mid-May, but that's about it. Coach Curry had reached out to her after being hired, but that doesn't seem to have changed things.

As for her eligibility, women's hoops is the lone women's sport where there is a mandatory sit-out year, barring any exceptions or waivers. Even though Horn took a medical redshirt season, that doesn't replace/offset sitting out a season due to transfer rules. If she does in fact have to sit out a season, that would leave her only one season of eligibility remaining; but, there's always the chance to appeal for that 6th year.

Hope she has a good visit. I applaud Coach Aston and her staff for continuing to try and improve the roster.

As for scholarship numbers, I don't think Horn would be visiting if there wasn't a scholarship offer on the table for her. I'm still wondering if Ashley Roberts and/or Ann Marie Hartung will be returning; their injuries were kept pretty quiet this past season, and with both having only one season remaining, there's always a chance they want to focus on academics if they aren't 100% recovered physically.

I had high hopes for our last transfer, Kala Brewer, but injuries didn't allow her to contribute.

I read on an Alabama forum that Kaneisha graduated from Alabama this Spring. If so, that would make her eligible to play w/o sitting out I think.

Do we really need this transfer? We've got all the height we need, with more on the way. We need GUARDS!

I'm thinking Jalea Bennett decommitted. I haven't seen her listed as a UT commit anywhere, and her twitter no longer says "UT commit."

When I had watched Jalea's video clips, the word "finisher" sure came to mind. I believer her high school teammate signed with Stanford last November.

Obviously, Jalea attending our camp would be a good sign; her absence, not so much.

As for Kaneisha, nothing out there as to who else she is considering.

Blur in this article about which schools are recruiting JaLea Bennett, and Texas isn't included.

Anyone know if she attended our Summer camp? Regardless, seems like we've parted ways with her, or vice verse.

yeah, I don't think she did attend. Wonder what happened. She was the only post, and a rising player, in that 2014 group. Still wondering if Horns will get a post in this upcoming class.

I liked what I saw of JaLea on video, but she isn't a college post player, IMO. She's listed at 5'11, so she's most likely 5'10 at the most. A very good wing player, from what I saw, and she knows how to finish.

After we got the commitment from Ariel Atkins, I wondered if her game and that of JaLea were too similar. I believe another poster commented that Bennett was bigger and more physical.

So, assuming everyone has moved on, I can see Bennett's spot going to Horn if she wants to come, or perhaps we can persuade a talented JUCO from Trinity Valley to come on bard for 2014-15.

ah, earlier, I had seen some sites llsting her as a 6-1 F. Have to figure that with Ariel, Brooke & Tasia, there likely wasn't going to be room for her.

Kaneisha will be graduating from UA next week which will make her eligible to play this season. I would assume a decision will come shortly. She will chose between Texas and USC.

Fingers crossed! Would be a huge bonus for her to be eligible for the upcoming season. That would leave her with 2 years of eligibility, I believe.
