has verbally committed to Okie Light. I guess this means we start looking at Brewer as the #2 QB offer.

wow, that's early. i won't be surprised if that choice changes down the road. okie lite will suck out loud next year.

It is not critical to take a QB in 2011. If Mack can't get his #1 choice, then just pass, unless #2 is begging to come here.

I agree with GHow on this one. It's not that critical to take a QB, especially if he's not your #1 targeted QB. We need OL, DB, LB, and TE more than anything else. We should be very highly selective in regards to RB, DL, and especially QB and WR.

Oh really. If Gilbert goes pro after his junior season, which is certainly a possibility, we would have only 2 QBs on the roster. We better get at least one this year, along with 5 OLs and 4 DBs.

I agree with most of what has been said. Martin is right because we do need to get at least one QB and we need to get OL and include a good center and a good TE. Also I would like to get two RBs.

A lot of these hotshots want to come in and play relatively soon, so that's going to make it hard to sign a top qb right now. That's the way it was when VY was here, and it's going to be a problem for the next couple of years.

We'll take at least one quarterback in the next class, and I wouldn't be surprised to see us take both Ash and Brewer. Neither will make too much noise about playing early, and I don't think Mack wants to ever get caught short of numbers at quarterback again.

I believe we take one and only one, no matter what. Ash he he takes it. If not, Brewer may be an option if his size doesn't scare Mack off. If not Brewer then they'll target another.

Sounds like David Ash, come on down if Gilbert might leave after his junior year.

I still would like to offer Michael Brewer for QB.

I would be surprised, and a bit disappointed, if Brewer plays his college ball anywhere but at UT.

After McCoy QB recruiting for Texas:
Harris, Snead
Chiles, Kinne
none
Gilbert

So far that's a one in five hit rate for contributors (Gilbert) and only a two in five hit rate for still being on the team and at QB. You've got to take a QB every class.

I agree DJ, but unless we are USC, where the backups can get a good tan, and lots of hot chicks, WHO will sign, knowing they aren't going to play right away, and have to wait their turn for 3 or 4 years? Sorry for the pessimism, but defensive guys wait their turn here, as they have a good chance of going pro. We are not known as a QB school, and won't happen anytime soon. JMHO.

You sell them on the chance for open competition at every position. If they're good enough as a freshman they'll play. The studs will give it maybe a redshirt year and another year and if the writing is on the wall they will transfer.

Also, this talk of QBs led me to make a new sig. Sig fail. hmm.

All I did was change the address between the tags. Anyone know what's up?

We are not known as a QB school _____________ I believe the last 3 are now (or soon to be) millionaires in the NFL. Also, since Mack was hired, the only one prior to those is an Off Coordinator a a very high paying Div1 school. Almost certainly a millionaire also. That's a pretty good track record since Mack has been the coach at UT. Put in one the recruiting banner, "Starting QBs at Texas are millionaires by the early-mid 20's"

Besides the 2 typos on the last post, I forgot to mention I really wish Walsh would reconsider. I think he is perfect for our offense as Colt ran it.....

I am of the opinion that you take a QB every class. Even if that guy won't ever start for you - you always have someone to run the scout team O and if injuries strike, you aren't stuck.

College Football News for scout.com has us at #7:The Link

College Football News.com put out its list of the best college quarterback factories. The rankings only span the last 40 years (from 1970-present), so for example, TCU's dynamic duo of Sammy Baugh and Davey O'Brien in the 1930's is no good here.
Also, the list is based ONLY on college production and does not take into account anything that happened (or didn't happen) in the NFL.

Here's the Top 20:

1) Oklahoma
2) Miami
3) USC
4) Florida
5) BYU
6) Nebraska
7) Texas
8) Florida State
9) Purdue
10) Michigan
11) Tennessee
12) Boston College
13) Penn State
14) Notre Dame
15) Washington
16) Stanford
17) Fresno State
18) Houston
19) Syracuse
20) Washington State

It might be biased, and it's definitely debateable, but it puts us in the Top 10.

I can't believe anyone tries to sell the idea that we are a quarterback school.

Name ONE elite quarterback (Bobby Layne was light years ago) IN THE NFL that we have produced.
